About us
Women are hugely under-represented in the Data industry – as things stand, male Analysts and Data Scientists outnumber their female colleagues 4 to 1. Addressing this imbalance isn’t just the right thing to do ethically. Data shows that everything from workplace satisfaction, to business profitability significantly improve when an organisation strives for greater diversity and inclusivity. Women in Data® plays a key role in driving for more accurate representation wherever data is being gathered and analysed. We provide the platform that allows professionals at all levels to share their knowledge and experience, while working alongside businesses to help them embrace and develop the enormous advantages generated by diversity. The changes we’re affecting are cultural and systemic. Offering everything from professional networking and knowledge transfer, to our Women’s Health Commission, Women’s Safety Commission, MenopauseX and Girls in Data initiative. Our work is creating measurable impact for the partners we support and the community we host.

Don't miss our 2025 flagship event! 📣 📣 📣 Enter our (FREE) ballot ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eH4jnxRV 🗓️ 𝐒𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄: Thurs, 27th March 2025 Incredible speech by Maggie Alphonsi MBE! 📹 Watch the short recap here: https://lnkd.in/e67byqWi
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Practitioner | Chartered MCIPD | Mental Health Advocate | Allyship Book Club Member |
Winning The Fight by Maggie Alphonsi MBE 📚 As you may know by now I'm an avid, if rather slow, reader! My signed copy of Maggie’s book had been patiently sat on my bedside table since I was privileged enough to hear her speak and meet her at the Women in Data® (WID) flagship conference earlier this year. But once I picked it up, I was hooked (rugby pun entirely intended). Something I loved about listening to Maggie speak was her warmth, humour and honesty, and these also feature throughout her book. She writes openly and candidly about the social stigma surrounding femal sport, especially around physique and femininity. As well as the lack of status and eye-watering pay inequity compared to men. Maggie also talks about the 'why' behind wanting to win the World Cup. Which was something I remember vividly from her talk and which is also very poignant in her book. As well as facing and overcoming numerous barriers in her sporting career, including having been born with lower limb disorder, she has also faced ongoing racism and sexism in her career as a sports commentator. But she keeps going, in fact in her own words: "The negativity spurs me to keep going. One thing I can promise you is that I am not going to fade away". Thank you Maggie for sharing your journey, you really are winning the fight and you're a trailblazer for all who follow you 👏🤩 Image Description: A collage of three photos. Left: Maggie Alphonsi and I at her book signing – can you tell by my big smile how excited and happy I was to meet her? Maggie is wearing a red jacket and holding a copy of her book. I'm wearing my red WID volunteer t-shirt. Right top: On a desk are an “I heart Data” mug filled with coffee, my WID volunteer lanyard and my signed copy of Maggie Alphonsi’s book “Winning the Fight”. Right bottom: Advert for Maggie Alphonsi's book signing at WID with the image from her book's front cover (which is Maggie smiling while holding a rugby ball). #WinningTheFight #MaggieAlphonsi #WomenInData #WID #AllyshipBookClub

Women in technical roles are twice as likely as women overall to be the only woman in the room at work❌ McKinsey & Company and Lean In’s 2022 ‘Women in the Workplace’ report outlines the gender bias in engineering and technical roles ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eHhcYAFc And women’s representation has FALLEN in these roles since 2018📉 As the fastest growing and highest-paid jobs categories, if women don’t see an equal path to advance it can lead to bigger earning gaps between women and men overall. Ofcom Spotlight 💡| Qiqi Su, Machine Learning Engineer "I joined Ofcom in January 2024 in the algorithmic assessment team for Online Safety. My job focuses on how we can assess the algorithms behind social media platforms, to ensure people and mainly children, will not encounter harmful content so we can all have a safer online experience. This role really allowed me to use everything I have learned, and most importantly, use them for the good of the society and that would make an impact in the future!"
