Increasing the number and diversity of women in leadership roles in PR and communications
About us
The PR & communications industry is female dominated (67%) overall. However, at senior levels it becomes male dominated with only a third of boardroom positions taken by women. Women in PR exists to address this imbalance. Our mission is to improve equality and diversity across the industry by increasing the number and diversity of women in leadership roles.

Is communications the path to the C-Suite for women? A recent report has found that women hold the majority of Chief Communications Roles at Fortune 500 companies. Key takeaways included: 🗣️66% of CCOs are women, compared to 10.4% of CEOs and 18.5% of CFOs 🚑 Women are most likely to hold top comms roles in the healthcare sector and least likely in energy Good news right? Unfortunately, the report also highlights the gender gap is very much in place, with women earning 16% less than their male counterparts and reporting lower job satisfaction. Whilst the rise of the female CCO is encouraging, we’d love to hear your thoughts on what can be done to level the playing field and keep more women in leadership? Let us know in the comments. Hat tip to Alex Doorey for sharing. https://lnkd.in/gaG4Bx3f #womeninpr #leadership #equality

PR Mums is working with a pan-industry steering group including PRCA, Chartered Institute of Public Relations, Women in PR , Grayling, Axicom, Manifest, Fine Lines, Hope&Glory PR, Full Fat Agency | Certified BCorp and The Unmistakables to create a best-practice charter for parental leave policy. We're asking for your input by completing a vital survey that’s been designed in partnership with Platform55 to provide a snapshot of where the PR industry stands today in relation to parenting policies and practice. 📸 Photo dump incoming! We loved seeing so many inspiring women at our Summer Soirée on Wednesday. As our President, Jo Carr said: 'It’s too early to declare victory. We still have a gender pay gap. We still hear horror stories about discrimination. Harassment. Ageism. Women are still getting burnt out, blocked or discouraged from believing they can have a long, rewarding career in our industry. And we’re here to change that.' By bringing women together, we aim to help more of us reach leadership positions in our industry. A big thank you to our sponsors Shout! Communications and Prospect Resourcing for their support. [Image description - people networking and chatting, with images of speeches delivered by sponsors and President Jo Carr]

📣 Open Committee Roles announcement! At WiPR, we are working on making our network more representative. As a next step, we are expanding our committee to create more seats at the table and allow for a greater range of voices and opinions as we shape our future goals. We are opening up three spaces reflecting areas of our work where we need more hands on deck to help us deliver WiPR’s ambitious goal – to increase the number and diversity of women in senior roles in the PR and communications industry. We encourage self-nominations from both members and non-members for these volunteer positions to bring a different perspective to the table. The deadline for nominations is 22 July 2024.
