Last September former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak ditched the 2030 ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles, rolling it back until 2035. It’s just going to be part of their growing up. That’s the fun part … The serious part is speaking about #DrivenWomen which has been part of the discussions for so long ahead of this event. Women in the industry are speaking to girls and women visiting about their choices, opportunities and sharing experiences. Engineering, Technician, Web Design, Marketing, Data Analysis, People Skills and more have been discussed amongst little one’s colouring cars, F1 driving on a Sim and playing with old car parts or Lego. The 2024 UK EV SUMMIT encapsulated us from the offset. A musical opening from Violeta Vicci pulled us into a blissful moment of belief - a beautiful horizon just within touching distance. We can make a change! The days unraveling into a hive of buzzing conversations, intriguing introductions and hugs on tap, especially from our fellow Women in EV. Aside from the key stats, the opportunity for growth, the incredible presence from Gill Nowell and Ade Thomas taking to the podium and the ‘enough’ message from Vicky Read - one huge call to action was evident. If we want this to happen, if we believe that the players in that room can and will make the change, we have to reach outside of the echo chamber! Women Drive Electric connects real world drivers to real EV advocates in a community which is supportive, engaging and inclusive. Creating important conversations that influence and inspire women to GO FOR IT and make the switch to an electric car. It’s not so SCARY or overwhelming when you have other women sharing their similar journey. We were told, “there is a gap between the perception and reality” many times!
