‘Vulnerability is not inability’ Last week Windle International Netherlands and PitZtop organized an inspiring event on the resilience of refugees and the power of a host community at The Hague Humanity Hub. John Thon Majok, MPA of the Wilson Center’s Refugee and Forced Displacement Initiative and Dokter Hilal Sivri, a GP in the Netherlands, shared their story of rebuilding their lives after fleeing their country. That afternoon stories were shared and while refugees might be vulnerable, vulnerability is not inability. For policy makers it is important to understand that refugees bring lived experiences that are eye-opening and essential input to move forward for problems need to be solved, not managed. Thank you to Windle International Netherlands trustee Dr. Bijay Dhungana for organising this event.

About us
Windle International is a leading provider of education and training for refugees and communities affected by conflict in east Africa and the Horn of Africa. Every year, we help over a million people to access education and training, from nursery level to postgraduate scholarships and teacher training, so that they can contribute to creating peaceful, tolerant, and socially just societies. Windle International is an international NGO based in and operating across eastern Africa. Starting in 1977 with the establishment of Windle International Kenya in Nairobi by founder Dr Hugh Austin Windle Pilkington, we now operate across Kenya, Uganda, Sudan, South Sudan, and Somalia, with support offices in the UK and the US. We employ over 3,000 local staff across our offices and programmes - with a significant proportion being refugees or former refugees.

📝 As our 2023 BIC Global Education Week culminates on this Giving Tuesday, we are proud to have donated 4.4 million BIC products to 677 underserved schools worldwide, supporting 425,000 students. This includes one million products delivered to refugee camps and schools in need throughout Kenya and Uganda in partnership with Windle International, a vital NGO providing education and training for refugees and communities affected by conflict in Africa. Now in its sixth year, #BICGlobalEducationWeek is a charitable initiative that mobilizes our global workforce to help fill operational and financial gaps in schools where it matters most, based on real-time needs. With inflation persisting and families increasingly under pressure to make their money go further, now more than ever, school supplies need to be dependable and long-lasting. With this donation, students can trust that their writing instruments will last through the semester and beyond. In addition to the product donation, the BIC Corporate Foundation created the BIC Educator’s Activity Guide for Classroom Creativity to inspire curiosity in students through practical, easy to execute teaching methods. Tailored for primary and secondary education levels, the digital booklet helped hundreds of educators globally promote active learning, encouraging students to ask questions, evaluate different perspectives, and explore new ideas. BIC team members also volunteered hundreds of hours organizing events that ranged from full-scale classroom renovations and visits to local BIC factories, to in-classroom workshops covering arts and crafts, handwriting instruction, business and financial literacy, and much more. At #BIC, we believe that education is crucial for fostering free will and independence, developing confidence in creative self-expression, and building critical thinking skills that, at the highest level, hold the power to change the world. BIC Global Education Week is a cornerstone of our commitment to improving learning conditions for 250 million children globally by 2025 as part of our sustainability program, Writing The Future, Together. To download the BIC Educator’s Activity Guide and be entered for a chance to win three years of school supplies, please visit: https://lnkd.in/gXXteEEu #givingtuesday #TeamBIC #BICCorporateFoundation #education #WritingtheFutureTogether
