The Summer Edition of Whiskeria has arrived. Melodie Leung discusses the concepts and process behind The Dalmore Luminary No. 2. The Dalmore Luminary 2024 Edition is the second release in a unique three-part series of limited edition Rare and Collectible whiskies. With only four issues released every year, getting coveted space in Whiskeria magazine is an great achievement. "For the Rare, we designed a glass sculpture which wraps around and emerges from the decanter. The decanter holds a 49-year-old whisky and the glass sculpture around it evokes the layers and the movement which are involved in the making of the whisky" - Melodie Leung #thedalmore #whyteandmackay #whiskeria

#WorldEnvironmentDay Last year, we partnered with Carbon Capture Scotland to go beyond carbon reduction – instead, capturing 'biogenic CO₂' from our distilleries for more regenerative practices. Biogenic CO₂ originates from organic processes such as fermentation and is part of the natural carbon cycle. When captured and removed, this reduces the baseline levels of CO₂ in the atmosphere. The CO₂ captured will be used to help fuel local industry, with the excess sequestered via geological stores, resulting in permanent carbon removal. “This partnership with Whyte & Mackay allows us to capture sustainable CO₂ and either re-use or begin carbon removal efforts. We have been impressed by Whyte & Mackay’s sustainability program, which fits well with our own efforts for Scotland to reach net zero.” – Richard Nimmons #whyteandmackay

The Dalmore Luminary No.2 'The Rare' has sold at auction for £93,750 - with all proceeds going to V&A Dundee. The Luminary Series is a collection of rare and limited edition single malts created by exceptional luminaries from the worlds of whisky and architectural design, curated in partnership with V&A Dundee, Scotland’s design museum. The Dalmore and V&A Dundee have worked closely in partnership since 2020, with the collaboration continuing to support the museums mission to inspire and empower, through design. “This is a thoroughly deserved result for a true collector’s piece that combines to brilliant effect a highly aged liquid, a high concept design and a worthy cause. The Dalmore is an icon of the whisky world and this second iteration in their Luminary series encapsulates all the key elements collectors are looking for in today’s premium whisky market.” - Jonny Fowle, global head of spirits at Sotheby’s. “This collaboration is invaluable to V&A Dundee and supports our work to generate joy, spark curiosity and to deepen our social impact through design.” - Leonie Bell, Director of V&A Dundee #TheDalmore

World Peatland Day 2024 What a difference a year makes! On World Peatland Day, we are happy to celebrate our continued peatland restoration partnership and support ADLnature, who have been working hard to restore peatland on the Wyvis Estate. Following extensive work through the challenging Scottish weather, the peatland has been transformed to its former, wetter glory. This video shows how an area that was previously dry, damaged, and cracked is now flourishing. The placement of over 1,600 dams, 49,500 metres of reprofiling, and 81 pools treated with sphagnum all add up to a healthy peatland. Peatlands store twice as much carbon as forests, meaning they’re vital in tackling climate change. Just like forests, our peatlands are critical in supporting plants, wildlife, ecosystems, and the water cycle. Scotland is lucky to have one of the densest coverings of peatland in Europe, with approximately 20% of our country covered by peatland. The local Wyvis Estate holds special significance for us as the water source for our Invergordon Distillery. Our Sustainability team also sit on the Scotch Whisky Association Peat Supply Chain working group to further foster responsible management and use of peat across the industry. We look forward to watching the land and our partnerships continue to flourish. Join us in raising a glass to celebrate this boggy wonder! #whyteandmackay #worldpeatlandsday

Our Jura Distillery has just achieved a significant milestone with the delivery of a new Biomass Boiler. This monumental step will enable us to harness natural/non-fossil fuel resources, creating heat at our distillery and propelling us towards our carbon-neutral goal by 2030. The logistics of transporting such a heavy load to and along the rugged island posed a formidable challenge, with the boiler alone weighing over 40 tonnes. However, the successful offload, which took place at high tide over the weekend, was a testament to the unwavering dedication and teamwork of our exceptional team. Looking ahead, the project will continue with the erection of the building that will house the Biomass Boiler in June, followed by the mechanical and electrical installation throughout July and August, with commissioning scheduled for later in the year. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Jamie McFarlane at BL Contracts Ltd and the amazing teams at Ferguson Transport & Shipping and STODDART CRANE HIRE LTD. for going above and beyond. Additionally, the support from the local council roads department, Davis Trackway, the Forest Lodge Estate, and our own team at Whyte & Mackay has been invaluable. #whyteandmackay #jura
