As whisky makers, we understand our responsibility to limit our environmental impact. We have outlined our commitment to sustainability in the Whyte & Mackay Green Print, which details our journey toward a sustainable future. In line with our goals, the recent delivery of the Jura Biomass Boiler to our Jura Distillery was a remarkable feat that required careful planning, collaboration, and hard work from everyone involved. The crane to lift the substantial boiler was delivered to the site on Friday, May 24th, followed by the boiler on Sunday, May 26th. This delivery schedule was strategically planned to avoid a race on the island on Saturday, showcasing the thoughtful consideration given to local events and activities. The logistics of transporting such a heavy load along the rugged island presented a significant challenge, with the boiler alone weighing over 40 tonnes, not including the vehicle weight.  To cope with these demands, a temporary slipway at the Forest Lodge Estate was developed in the weeks before the offload. Approximately two miles north of Craighouse, the slipway required extensive collaboration, including an agreement with the estate, road preparation, and installing over a mile of trackway to protect the roadway. The successful offload, which took place at high tide, was made possible by favourable weather conditions and an additional breakdown truck that carefully manoeuvred the boiler up the slipway. The arrival of the crane and the boiler was met with warm applause from the locals at the Jura Hotel, highlighting the community's support and enthusiasm. With all equipment on site and the final pressure testing of the boiler on site achieved in September, commissioning will be ongoing in October. We thank all of our suppliers for their work on this project but especially, VYNCKE, STODDART CRANE HIRE LTD. for cranage, BL Contracts Ltd for the temporary slipway and on-site civils, Fostec for integrating the new boiler house with the existing site, and Ferguson Transport & Shipping for the delivery and footage. #Jura #WhyteAndMackay

'Since 1844' sits proudly on each bottle of Whyte & Mackay. Our story began in the heart of Glasgow, on the banks of the River Clyde. (In fact, 1-in-5 ships at the time were built and launched from these docks) That's why our founders, James Whyte and Charles Mackay, decided to create a superior blended whisky for the thriving community of Glasgow. It wasn't just an alternative to the Cognac of the time; it was a way to reward Scottish talent with Scottish spirit. The rest is history, though its intent to reward pride and passion remains today. #WhyteAndMackay #MadeInScotland

Our Distillery Manager, Stewart Walker, began his career as a warehouse operator with Fettercairn in 1990. “I was born about a mile from Fettercairn Distillery and actually moved onto the same street at the age of eight, so it has always been part of my life. I'm in a position where there isn’t a single job in this distillery that I don’t know how to perform.” #WhyteAndMackay #LifeAtWhyteAndMackay #Fettercairn

Hosted every year during the last week of May, Fèis Ìle is an island-wide festival that celebrates the whisky, music and culture of Jura and Islay. This year, on Friday 31st May, we hosted a collection of guests at our beachside distillery on Jura, sharing our passion for whisky, community and of course a dram or two of our Fèis Ìle Edition. We received fantastic feedback on samples and all sessions with over 350 visitors joining us at the distillery. 📸 : Konrad Borkowski #WhyteAndMackay #JuraWhisky #FeisIle #IslayFestival

Our Supply Chain is a thriving part of Whyte & Mackay, and the opportunity to connect as a function is rare.   We had an amazing time hosting our colleagues at the first of our Connecting for Our Future events at the stunning Hopetoun House on 26 August. Over 250 colleagues gathered to receive updates on our strategy and gain insights into the luxury category from our guest speaker, Kate Waddell.   It was a valuable opportunity for everyone to come together, connect, share the fantastic work taking place, and look ahead. We're excited to continue these events at other great locations for colleagues across the business during September and October.   #WhyteAndMackay
