Brands that Slay I’ve Slacked This Week. I’ve got to be honest with you all. Yesterday, I found myself debating whether to force out a post and scrape together some ideas about brands that have caught my eye. In reality, I was just dealing with a bit of brain fog. I realized that wouldn't be authentic to who I am. As much as I’m obsessed with marketing and social media, there’s no point in pretending to be in love with something if it didn’t genuinely catch my attention this week. It’s easy to feel the pressure to always be “on” and constantly churning out content. But authenticity is key. If I’m not feeling it, then I can’t expect to deliver the kind of genuine insights and enthusiasm that you all deserve. So, instead of forcing it, I took a step back. After all, it’s important to stay true to myself and keep things real. I'm sure there are PLENTY that have just slipped past my radar this week. But don't worry, I'll be back next week better than ever, ready to dive into the latest and greatest in the marketing world. 🚼 The “motherhood penalty”, That’s what we call returning to work after maternity leave. While it can be a time of excitement and new beginnings, it also presents numerous challenges that can affect a woman’s career and well-being. The Challenges Women Face: ❌ Career Progression: Many women fear that maternity leave will hinder their career progression. The Institute for Fiscal Studies reports a "wage penalty" of about 2% for each year out of work after maternity leave (https://lnkd.in/eKaAQTYn). ❌ Flexible Working Arrangements: Not all employers offer flexible working options. The Working Families charity found that 40% of mothers reported a lack of access to flexible working, making balancing work and family life hard (https://lnkd.in/eWmznwgB). ❌ Workplace Discrimination: Despite legal protections, discrimination against mothers persists. The Equality and Human Rights Commission revealed that around 54,000 women a year might lose their jobs due to pregnancy or maternity discrimination (https://lnkd.in/eqvX35rc). ❌ Childcare Costs: High childcare costs are a significant barrier. The Family and Childcare Trust’s 2021 report shows that the average cost for nursery care for a child under two is £138.70 per week for 25 hours (https://lnkd.in/ehcgsqPA). Companies Leading the Way: 🌟 Vodafone: Offers 16 weeks of fully paid maternity leave and full pay for a 30-hour week for the first six months after returning to work. 🌟 Deloitte: Implements a “Return to Work” program offering career coaching, networking opportunities, and skills workshops for women returning from maternity leave. 🌟 Unilever: Provides 16 weeks of paid maternity leave, paid paternity leave, flexible working arrangements, and robust support through employee resource groups. 🌟 John Lewis Partnership: Offers flexible working policies and coaching for new parents, including part-time working, job sharing, and term-time working options.
