    Country Manager at THG

As THG celebrates its 20th birthday, I am thrilled to reflect on my incredible journey. Nearly 4 years ago, I joined THG as a marketplace executive for China, eager to make a mark. Launching a platform that generated £1M in its first year was just the beginning of an exciting adventure. Since then, I have had the privilege to take on further responsibilities, and today, I am proud to serve as the China Country Manager. Leading a talented team of nine, managing 8 figures sales in revenue, and consistently achieving double-digit growth has been a remarkable experience. THG's commitment to innovation and excellence has been the driving force behind our success. Throughout my time at THG, I have been fortunate to participate in various programs that have significantly contributed to my growth. I’ve been nominated for Employee of the Quarter, a testament to THG's supportive and dynamic work environment. Additionally, being part of the "Mycon" High-Performance Programme and completing two additional management courses have equipped me with the skills and knowledge to excel in my role. Consistency, the willingness to go the extra mile, and a passion for innovation have been key to my journey at THG. These values are deeply ingrained in the company culture and have played a crucial role in shaping my career. I am excited to continue contributing to our collective success and look forward to many more years of growth and achievement with THG. Here's to celebrating the incredible milestones we've achieved together and to the bright future that lies ahead. #20Years20Stories #WeAreTHG #THG20

Director of Creative Operations and Solutions THG Studios

For way over a decade I’ve worked at THG. We’ve had some hard times, and lots of amazing times. Times when I felt like quitting, and times where I felt on top of the world. When I joined THG we didn’t own a camera. There were no meeting rooms, the Staff technology team was 1 person, and we used staff as models - yes Dean Amery you’ve still got it! There were around 150 of us back then, and around 15 of them still work with me in THG Studios today. We’ve worked here long enough to remember the days when our entire organisation occupied a small rented office. We had meetings in a boiler room, and we all wore a THG uniform…YES! We all wore bright blue t-shirts with The Hut logo! Some of us even drove THG cars - remember those branded Toyota IQs!! The ‘Originals’ I call them. These special people, that I still work with today in THG Studios. People you trust implicitly and can rely on for support at any time, people like Rich Pickford, Nicola Yearsley, Wojciech Kropidlowski, Jason Broadhurst, Daniel Waterhouse, Sarah Field, Clare Longland, Holly Benjamin, and Michael Scott. It was great to catch up recently, and reminisce… about when the cupboard in our office became the fake tanning room ahead of the xmas party. Or the time when all staff had to form a human chain to unload hundreds of Wii consoles into the building. Or when Matt would walk about with a huge gold retro mobile phone all day. The office car park known as ‘the gravel pit’ where cars would be abandoned… There were times when the design team was asked to do some extraordinary things, for example we had to make Ben Hardcastle into an Ewok and photoshop exec headshots onto the bodies of superheroes, movie characters and more… But the best bit was undoubtably the people. The resilience that we developed over those early years, made us strong, relentless, and restless for more. We powered through, had each other’s backs. Crafted, grafted and pushed until the job was done. Never giving up. This special power we have is called JFDI. And that is why I am still here after all this time. Because where else can you see an opportunity and instantly move to change it. Our resilience and ability means we can pivot quicker, deliver faster, transform and adapt better than anyone else on the market. #20Years20Stories #WeAreTHG #THG20 Check out the pics John Gallemore Lucy Gorman Paul Bonner Matthew Moulding

Last week, Ryan Atkin, The FA's first openly gay referee joined us at THG Studios to share his coming out story 🏳️🌈 Ryan consistently advocates for LGBTQ equality and acceptance in football and all sports; championing authenticity by opening up conversation around breaking down barriers so that sexuality should not be a hindrance to success. A huge thank you to Ryan T A. for sharing his story, to Sam Davys MBE for organising the event, and to Greg Feehely, Executive Sponsor of the Pride Collective Network, for hosting. #PrideMonth2024 #WeAreTHG

    Assistant Brand Manager at Myprotein

20 is one of those numbers I find myself seeing everywhere. It’s said to be a number that symbolises balance and new beginnings, and aged 20, I was certainly embarking on something new, during a time that can only be described as anything but balanced! With a global pandemic wreaking havoc on my second year of uni, the saving grace was the start of my placement year at THG. That 1 year internship turned out to be a transformative time, evolving into the foundation of my career in marketing, as 4 years later, I’m still here, a proud part of the THG family at Myprotein. There are too many highlights from this time to list, but a standout has been the brand evolution project, a huge rebrand overhauling the creative identity, positioning and logo as we establish Myprotein as the world’s most empowering health movement. The 20 theme continues, as this year, after 20 months, we launched the brand evolution in the final market, completing the global rollout after working on over 70 individual launches! After endless asset creation, influencer activations and critical paths, getting the Japan site live was a definite career highlight. On top of the brand evolution, this year marks another ‘20th’ for myself, Myprotein and THG, as they move into their twentieth years. We’re celebrating Myprotein’s birthday this year with the ’20 Together’ campaign, a multi-channel activation which cumulated in our Impact Week event, which took some of our global top-tier talent on an immersive journey through the past 20 years of the brand. Think high-energy dance classes of the early noughties, to home-workouts through the pandemic years to showcasing some of our amazing high-performance partnerships with HYROX and Williams Racing as we moved into current day.  It's certainly been a busy two decades, and I’m sure THG won’t be slowing down any time soon! Excited to play my part in the next 20 years #20Years20Stories #WeAreTHG #THG20

    Managing Director at THG Ingenuity

Celebrating THG's 20th Birthday fills me with pride and gratitude, as it’s a journey that has been a huge part of my life for 18 years. Reflecting, I’m reminded of the memories, lessons, and incredible people who have been a huge influence in my career to date. Working at THG has taught me the importance of never settling and always pushing beyond any self-imposed limits. The culture here continues to encourage innovation and self-belief, driving us to be brave in our approach. The backing from the business and belief in myself has remained throughout various layers of management, giving me continued confidence to push myself, my career, and the teams around me…. there’s much more to come! There’s been so many incredible memories! One of my favorite memories was the launch of the first Nintendo Wii, back in one of our old offices. The sales rate was unprecedented, and the energy in the office was electric. We had a human chain stretching from the top of the office to the backdoor, where our couriers worked tirelessly to keep up with the demand, as did we. It was testament to the team's collaborative spirit and resilience, seeing how everybody worked for each other and mucked in, with pride for the business shining through. We even helped Ben Hardcastle became a temporary legend, riding high on the commissions (As you can see in Pic 8) 😊. These values remain today, with a much larger team 😊. I’ve been fortunate to be part of exceptional teams over the past 19 years! Developing the CPG category within Ingenuity remains integral to my position, nurturing a culture and drive that now thrives with over 100 passionate individuals, and many strategic client partnerships that continue to scale. I’ve had many highlights throughout the years! Last year we picked up the Team of the Year award, and I was humbled to receive the Employee of the Year award for Ingenuity, which was a real highlight to see the recognition from the business continue after 18 years, and the value that this brought to our team. I owe a great deal of gratitude to Matthew Moulding and John Gallemore for giving me a chance 19 years ago. I’ve continued to learn and be inspired by both, as well as  many other individuals over the years and still to this day, such as Richard Ward, Hannah Pym, Liz Deverell-Smith, Naomi Wright, Alistair Crane, Darren Rajanah, Jon Parton, Pete Preston, Adam Knappy, Mark Foster, Tom Killeen, Mohammad Ali Shahadat , Michael Holden (the list goes on), and of course, the entire CPG crew and leadership. The last 20 years have gone in a heartbeat! Here’s to the next 20 years of successes at THG, and for many individuals that will play a part in our continued journey together. #20Years20Stories #WeAreTHG #THG20

Personal Trainer @ Self-Employed | Swim Instruction, Event Planning

My THG journey began as a Lifeguard in 2019 at the age of 16, from which my passion for fitness quickly progressed me into the role of a Fitness Instructor in 2021. I became a Brand Ambassador in 2023 and in that same year I was recognised for my dedication to the company with a nomination for Employee of the Year (THG) and Unsung Superstar 2023 (HCC). This year, I have been honoured to receive the Ambition Award, one of THG's core values. After two years as a Fitness Instructor, I recently took the leap into becoming a self-employed Personal Trainer. Whilst still wanting to maintain my connection with THG, I also embraced a part-time role as an Events & Activations Executive. Today, after five years with THG, I can genuinely say I love every moment. THG has provided me with countless opportunities; from buying my first car to planning to buy a house this year, THG has been there every step of the way, and I am grateful for the support and growth I've experienced as part of this company. Happy 20th Birthday, THG! Thank you for the incredible journey and the many opportunities you've provided. Here's to many more years of success and impact! #20Years20Stories #WeAreTHG #THG20

THG is 20 years old this month and in February I'll have been involved for 20 years. This seems like a milestone at which I should reflect on my journey.      So, (those that have had the luxury of attending one of my THG Accelerator talks will know that this is my filler word of choice) behind the blue door in a single room office somewhere in Cheshire UK is where it all started. I could talk about the occasions when both (yes there were two) customer service representatives were on the phone at the same time and another customer called, and that call would ring all the other phones in the office. As a software engineer, I was also expected to answer the phone to customers, which terrified me.     I could talk about the time myself and John Gallemore were chasing a bird out of the office late one evening to stop the burglar alarm going off.   I could talk about the time trying to route a modem ( remember those ) cable through the dusty roof space to connect the server that would charge the credit cards to the telephone line (it dialled up every night).    I could talk about the time we despatched the first parcel using our in house built WMS, or the first time the order monitor in the office showed 100 orders for the day, or going on road trips to meet suppliers with John in his VW Golf and always stopping for bacon sandwiches at roadside food trucks, or questioning why a new boardroom carpet was being purchased over a development tool I had requested. Perhaps even helping pack DVDs and CDs to support the Christmas rush, or even trying to find a place to get food on Guernsey at 11pm at night.      None of that is my favourite memory of THG, that memory was meeting the girl that would become my wife. We now have 3 teenage children all thanks to THG. #20Years20Stories #WeAreTHG #THG20

Founder & CEO at THG | Building a global giant from the UK

20 years ago today, everything changed for me and those around me. On 1 July 2004 THG's journey began when we launched our first website, thehut.com, selling CDs, DVDs & Games. Despite all the excitement in the build-up to launch, disappointment was quick to arrive. The lack of any sales on the first day was ominous, with John Gallemore rightly voicing his concerns. John, like me, had remortgaged his house to support an idea I’d had about building an online business. Neither of us knew anything about CDs/DVDs, tech or online, and we looked set to pay the price. The pressure was on. We didn’t have Google ads at launch, the focus was just getting live. But we still thought people would find our new website and we’d get some sales. Oh, if only it was that easy…. We had Google ads up and running after a few days, and the sales trickled in – but at a cost! The ads were costing more than our product margins, and so each sale was loss making. FFS! John had backed me with everything he had, and it was blatantly obvious that both the idea and business plan were “pants”: 1.  We’d no scale and so our margins were tiny 2.  With no margins, we couldn’t afford marketing 3.  The tech provider charged us fortunes for just breathing 4. We'd very little cash Being in a fight for survival just days after launch was a sickening feeling. We’d no option but to pivot fast, and so pivot we did. Firstly, we recruited 2 developers, fed them pizza & coffee, and left them to build us an inhouse platform. In 2004, barely anyone had a website and so we called every UK retailer to see if we could launch them online, using the tech we were soon to launch. Incredibly, despite being a brand-new company, with no track record and only a handful of staff, Asda agreed we could launch them online with an entertainment range. This was divine intervention 😇 Within 12 months of starting, things were changing. We’d built our own tech from scratch (the birth of THG Ingenuity), launched a major UK grocer online and had scale in the Entertainment industry. While stress and pain never seemed too far away, at least we’d found a path to survival.   20 years is a long time and yet it’s flown by. Even though THG now has £2bn of Sales and thousands of staff across the world, the feeling of fighting for survival is engrained in our culture. John always plays down his role at THG, but I can tell you he’s been critical from the get-go. I couldn’t have picked a better human to partner with through the years, riding the highs and lows of building THG. I admire John as a man - his integrity, passion and morals are second to none. I've relied on his loyalty far too many times, knowing he's the man to step up in any difficult situation. While John paid off that mortgage a long time ago, he still wears that pained look to work every day that makes me nervous 🤣 I wouldn’t have wanted to take this journey with anyone else. Thank you John 🙏 #20Years #Birthday #Pivots
