The challenge is huge, but they are Undaunted: Tackling climate change with innovation. A really interesting afternoon yesterday exploring solutions from the Better Futures Retrofit Accelerator part of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change & the Environment at Imperial College London . 🌍 🏭 With 4 demo sessions, the themes covered Energy Efficiency & Optimisation, Materials, Products & Hardware and Portfolio Level Tools. Particularly interesting was: Pario Engineering & Environmental Sciences: 3D modelling assessment of building energy efficiency to inform retrofit decisions. Verv: Report on and optimise energy usage through smart monitors for households and companies. SmartShift Energy: Saving people money on their electricity bills by providing access to wholesale pricing and shifting their usage to off-peak times. Airex: Through constant airflow into buildings, airbricks contribute to a staggering 15% of heat loss in homes. Airex smart air bricks open and close according to moisture and temperature levels, keeping homes warmer for longer. Anzen: Providing air source heaters and air conditioning units for hard to decarbonise homes through an integrated smart wall system. Vox Aeris: Using soundwaves to lower the energy and maintenance costs associated with air filtration. Good to speak to James Dearsley, John Burley, Ash Greenall and to see the team at Velvet Green Media. #StartupSpotlight #BFRA #WeAreUndaunted

Air pollution can be reduced with the right combination of incentives, awareness, and technology. That’s why we aim to be a catalyst for this change. We look forward to celebrating an International Day of Clean Air where we can say that far fewer than 99% of the global population breathes polluted air. #internationaldayofcleanair #cleanair
Most of us - 99% of humanity - breathe polluted air. Air pollution leads to an estimated 8 million premature deaths – including more than 700,000 children under five. Yet pollution is a silent killer that can be stopped. Investing in clean air saves lives, combats climate change, strengthens economies, builds fairer societies, and advances the #GlobalGoals. On International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, let’s invest now so we can breathe easy knowing we are securing a healthier planet for all. 📷: UN NY Headquarters, 2023 (UN Photo/Eskinder Debebe)

🔎 The Overlooked Threat: It's Time to Recognize PFAS as Air Pollutants 🚨 Critical Development Multiple U.S. states have petitioned the EPA to officially recognize PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) as hazardous air pollutants. While water and soil contamination have dominated discussions, it's time we confront the significant risk these chemicals pose through air emissions. 🌬️ 💡 Why This Matters PFAS are notorious for their persistence in the environment, and their impact on human health is well-documented. Yet, despite the growing evidence of their presence in the air, the focus has remained primarily on water and soil. It's crucial that we expand our understanding and regulatory measures to include airborne risks. 🛑 🔄 A Familiar Challenge Air pollution often lags behind other forms of pollution in terms of recognition and response. From the delayed acknowledgment of smog and particulate matter to the recent hesitation in recognizing COVID-19 as airborne, history shows us that the invisible threats in the air we breathe are frequently overlooked until the damage is done. The current situation with PFAS is no different. The longer we delay recognizing PFAS as air pollutants, the greater the risk to public health, just as we saw with the initial downplaying of COVID-19's airborne transmission. 🕰️ 🚀 Supporting the Petition Vox Aeris fully supports this petition and the urgent need for PFAS to be recognized as hazardous air pollutants. We stand with those advocating for stronger air quality protections and are committed to supporting efforts that safeguard the air we all depend on. 🌱 #PFAS #AirQuality #EnvironmentalHealth #CleanAir #PublicHealth #AirPollution #Sustainability #VoxAeris #EnvironmentalProtection #EPA #HazardousAirPollutants Clean Air Fund
