No parent wants to say "NO" to their child's dream.🚫 Recently, Jean Baptiste K., our Chief Field Officer, met Ana Marina, a single mom from Guatemala who couldn’t afford to support her daughter's medical studies. VisionFund International equipped her with the tools that she needs. Now, she's strengthened her business, secured her future, and kept her daughter's dreams alive!✨ ➡ Almost 40% of VisionFund Guatemala's clients are below the national poverty line. But with access to the right tools, knowledge, and confidence to grow their businesses, #mompreneurs like Ana Marina can build a brighter future for their families.👩👧👦🌟 #Education #EmpoweringWomen #VisionFund #BrighterFutures
How hard it must be to tell your child you cannot support their dream of going to college. This takes an emotional toll and puts strain on a child-parent relationship. Recently, I met a mother who had to go through that. Ana Marina from Guatemala was forced to break this news to her daughter who began studying medicine. This widowed mother of three worked hard to give her children financial, emotional and spiritual support. Ana Marina owns, manages and works at a key manufacturing and copying shop. Stretched between a full-time job, homecare, and parenting, Ana Marina found herself at the end of her tether - ready to close the shop for good. It is at this time that VisionFund International offered support to Ana Marina. She learned much more about business management and got assistance to create a long-term vision for her shop. At the time of our meeting, Ana Marina had already updated her shop and provided the much-needed parking spot for her customers. Her business is now thriving, and her daughter continues her studies. Ana Marina feels that VisionFund International's support contributed to the success of her business and improved communication with her children. Almost 40% of VisionFund Guatemala’s clients are below the national poverty line. But Ana Marina - and many others supported by VisionFund International - have been given the tools, knowledge and confidence to grow their businesses, for the benefit of their family and their children. #motivation #inspiration #startup #microbusiness #microcredit #worldvision #visionfund #empoweredworldview

“Allowing access to financial services to women, most of whom are under the national poverty line, improves the lives of local children. They get to eat regular and nutritious meals, attend school, and dream about the future.”
I made tortillas from scratch recently in Guatemala. This impromptu cooking class was successful only because of the watchful eyes of local expert, Celestina. Celestina is the owner of three micro-businesses, earning enough to support her family – and pay off the loans she took out to grow these small enterprises. She sells spare parts, makes traditional clothing, and now, she sells tortillas. Both of her adult daughters, as well as other people from her community, work for Celestina. Serving people like Celestina is a mission of VisionFund International. Following World Vision’s interventions, VisionFund International sets up services in remote and far-to-reach areas, offering loans to those who are underserved by traditional banks. They are serving almost 4,000 people in this area, with 63% being women. Allowing access to financial services to women, most of whom are under the national poverty line, improves the lives of local children. They get to eat regular and nutritious meals, attend school, and dream about the future. Life wasn’t always easy for Celestina. For years, she struggled to pay off loans. But VisionFund Guatemala offered more than funds – Celestina was included in financial literacy classes and encouraged to develop a realistic vision for herself and her micro start-ups. She is now efficient in distributing and investing her income. I feel elated when I see people who have had a rough time, and who suffered, reach a point of being self-sufficient. #loans #visionfund #microbusiness #startup #worldvision #inspiration #tortilla #guatemala #motivation
