It’s disability pride month, which is close to our hearts at Viewpoint. Viewpoint is a social enterprise with the mission of providing employment opportunities for people who have barriers to work. One of the huge barriers to work is disabilities. The employment rate for people with disabilities is currently 27.9% less than people without a disability. Our goal is to help close this gap. We do this in several ways including: ·        accessible technology as required ·        short shifts (typically 4-5 hours) to enable an easy transition into work ·        and a supportive flexible work environment where we are open about people’s abilities on a day-to-day basis to ensure staff are comfortable in their work and able to thrive. Having a career at Viewpoint has a big impact on our staff’s confidence, wellbeing and feeling of inclusion in society. In an industry known for high turnover of staff, Viewpoint sit in contrast with a number of staff who have been with us for over 10 years. Our team may have tackled adversity in their lives. But their experiences and resilience are what contribute to their expertise and make Viewpoint unique. At Viewpoint we succeed because of our disabilities and differences, not in spite of them.

With a #GeneralElection on 4 July, we need our next government to see how the #SocialEnterprise sector can help them solve our country’s major challenges – and since you’re living proof of this, we need your help. As part of our Future Economy Alliance campaign, we’ve created a simple online tool you can use to invite parliamentary candidates to see your work in action. When they understand what you’re delivering, not just for the economy but wider society, they'll have no choice but to agree that our sector deserves their support!  We know the incredible impact our mission-led model can have, so let’s make sure those hoping to run our country know it too.
