London-listed VH GLOBAL SUSTAINABLE ENERGY OPPORTUNITIES PLC (GSEO), managed by Victory Hill Capital Partners LLP, has acquired a portfolio comprising seven solar and two wind projects across Europe. GSEO’s latest deal will be executed in two phases, adding 248.4 MW of installed renewables capacity to its portfolio. In the first phase, GSEO will acquire 59.8 MW of projects for a total consideration of €53 million, comprising: a 3.7 MW operational solar PV plant in Spain, 6 MW operational onshore wind asset in Sweden, 20 MW solar PV plant under construction in Portugal, 10.3 MW solar PV plant under construction in Spain, and a 19.8 MW RTB onshore wind asset in Spain. In the second phase, GSEO will acquire four RTB solar PV assets in Spain with a generation capacity of 188.6 MW for €45 million, funded by a European strategic fund and project finance debt. Upon completion of the second phase, GSEO will hold a 43.5% effective ownership of the portfolio, with the remaining stakes split between the equity co-investor and joint venture partners, Spanish Power S.L. The combined portfolio will benefit from competitive project finance debt with approximately 50% loan-to-value (LTV). GSEO’s new two-part portfolio will generate approximately 489,900 MWh of clean electricity per annum. Richard Lum, co-CIO of Victory Hill Capital Partners, commented: “We are pleased to announce this new investment, which will bring the total number of assets in the GSEO portfolio to 36, spread across seven countries and six technologies. “This transaction commits capital previously earmarked for the second project in our UK flexible power and carbon capture and reuse (CCR) programme, to a programme which will generate yields for shareholders in a more time-efficient manner, without compromising on returns.” GSEO anticipates mid-teen returns on the levered portfolio once fully constructed. #cleanenergy

The #King announced a bill will be introduced to set up a new publicly-owned power company, #GreatBritishEnergy, headquartered in #Scotland. This is expected to help accelerate #investment in #renewableenergy, such as offshore #wind. Our co-CIO, Richard Lum, commented in the article written by Holly Downes in PA Future, "The new government’s plan to invest £8.3bn to fund GB Energy, a publicly-owned #green #power company, is a welcome step but as with all such programmes, the devil is in the detail." "Their ambition to scale investment in wind and #solar is laudable but does not address the #intermittency issues we face. Further investment in #nuclear technology meanwhile will take time and need to consider the construction, raw material extraction and decommissioning issues as part of any power station lifecycle. “The interesting area will be the government’s co-investment plans alongside the #private sector to support new technologies such as #tidal power, #carboncapture and #greenhydrogen. Meeting the twin goals of #energy security through clean energy will require investment in a wide range of technologies across the #UK, basing energy production sources near demand centres and some careful national coordination. The #ambition is there, we just need to make sure that the enthusiasm is channelled in the right direction." he added.

Earlier this month, Victory Hill Global Sustainable Energy Opportunities' ("GSEO") Brazilian Hydro Facility celebrated its 50th Anniversary.   The Hydro Facility is located in the state of Espirito Santo. The event was marked by Paraty Energia, the operating partner, hosting a three-day festival for the community and various stakeholders, the current team working on site, former employees that worked on the construction of the plant many decades ago and their families. Local Mayor’s from neighbouring cities around the plant also attended, and a commemorative plaque was presented to mark the occasion by the Mayor of Baixo Guandu, the municipality where the plant is located. Victory Hill’s Marc H. (Investment Team) attended from London. Notably, with the very welcome announcement that the #IFRS foundation is taking responsibility for the #transitionplantaskforce disclosure elements. A critical piece of the puzzle in the #transition of the global economy. In the seemingly fragmented world of #sustainability #disclosure regulations and #frameworks and the increasing importance of decision-useful sustainability #data for investors, it was helpful to hear about the progress in decreasing complexity and cross-jurisdiction applicability. #listed #GSEO #energytranstion #transparency #disclosure

Great to see comments from our Head of Sustainability, Eleanor Fraser-Smith, in the Financial Times FT Adviser. The article, written by David Thorpe, focuses on how providers are dealing with the #SDR rules. The first wave of attempts to put a structure around the terminology came with the introduction, within the #EU, of the #sustainable #fund #disclosure #regulation (#SFDR), which awarded funds a number based on their capacity to meet set criteria around sustainability. VH #Global Sustainable #Energy Opportunities plc ("#GSEO") is an Article 9 fund in that regard. As these rules do not directly apply within the #UK, #policymakers here have revealed their own suite of regulations aimed at adding clarity, with the Sustainability Disclosure Requirements, or SDR rules, which asset management businesses will have to begin implementing from this summer. "There has been a proliferation of disclosure regulations in recent years which has led to more #transparency. However, many of these disclosures are complex and #technical, not very accessible and, if they are read, have done little to build trust in the sector" say Eleanor. She adds that "#ESG teams, comms teams, #PR teams, #IR teams often don’t align on ESG communications. Additionally, in a world of miscommunication and social media, firms cannot control the narrative and transparency commitments can backfire. That’s why regulations that focus on fair, clear and not misleading communications are vital.”

VH Global Sustainable Energy Opportunities plc ("GSEO") is pleased to announce a major milestone for its 10MW UK flexible power plant with carbon capture and reuse ("CCR") this morning. Following the successful completion of a series of hot commissioning tests by Landmark Power ("LMPH"), Yellow Power and Rolls-Royce MTU under the supervision of National Grid Energy Distribution ("NGED"), the operations of the asset's power plant, comprising four Rolls-Royce 16V engines, has now been transferred to our operating partner LMPH. The testing and commissioning process took two weeks during which time the units successfully generated power to the grid. This combined heat and power plant brings together high-efficiency, gas-fired engines technology with a CCR system that will produce highly efficient flexible power, helping to ensure the delivery of dependable power in the UK amidst increasing penetration of intermittent renewable energy. Furthermore, by utilising carbon capture technology on the gas-fired component, the project will capture and purify the CO2 exhaust, while addressing the structural shortage the industrial gases market is facing by selling the purified food-grade CO2 commercially. #milestone #UK #carboncapture #power #energy #technology #investments #sustainability #impact
