Vets for Pets Alsager Veterinary Surgeon, Becky Tracey, has recently been featured in the media due to her passion for treating exotic pets. Throughout her career, she has seen a wide range of exotic animals, such as a sick tortoise with a cloacal prolapse, an African grey parrot in respiratory distress, a guinea pig with an overactive thyroid, and even a hamster with a cheek pouch impaction. Discussing her experience, she said: “There is a lot more we can do to help our exotic species than many realise- sometimes even helping someone adapt their husbandry or adding in pain relief to help an older patient with chronic conditions can have a really positive impact on the quality of life for these guys- it's all about what works for the owner and their pet." Caroline Richards, the owner of Vets for Pets Barnsley, became passionate about offering regenerative therapy at the practice after meeting senior labrador Boris, who was struggling with arthritis. When Caroline opened the practice with her husband Peter 22 years ago, she treated a 12-year-old Boris, who was struggling with his joints. She realised then that she wanted to do more for pets. Caroline, who has been a veterinarian for 27 years, said, "Boris had arthritis but couldn't tolerate the standard painkillers we were giving him because they really upset his tummy. That's when it became clear that doing surgery and giving pets drugs are only two parts of a big, holistic approach that also includes diet advice, acupuncture, and hydrotherapy." Since then, the practice has grown to a team of 81 and can now offer patients hydrotherapy, laser therapy, CT scans, and endoscopy. Caroline hopes that one day they can get an MRI scanner and perform brain surgery. She said, "I am very lucky that I feel like my job is the best job in the world, and I am privileged to work with lovely people and lovely animals every day." We want to wish our good friends at the RSPCA a very happy 200th birthday today!   As partners, we have been working tirelessly together to promote responsible pet ownership by providing pet care advice and raising essential funds.    Through the help of over 1.3 million members of our Pets Club - who have chosen to support the charity - RSPCA centres and branches throughout the UK have received more than £2.5 million in lifelines to help support animal welfare.   Additionally, our Pets Foundation has contributed over £2.4 million in grants to numerous independent branches and national projects, assisting in the improvement of the lives of countless animals.   We would like to thank our colleagues and customers for their generous donations and support throughout the years. Together, we've made a significant difference in enriching the lives of thousands of animals who are under the care of the RSPCA. #PetsatHome
