“As an Associate Software Engineer, a big part of my role is to make it easier and more efficient for customers to get in touch with UW, creating a more user-friendly journey. No one particularly likes having to contact their supplier, so I also work on self-serve options, empowering customers to resolve issues quickly on their own, removing the need to contact us in the first place. I’m actually relatively new to the tech industry. Before joining UW, I spent three years teaching German and French. Though I loved languages, I really wanted a better work-life balance. I discovered coding through an evening Code First Girls course and found it similar to learning languages, with an element of problem-solving. This led me to leave teaching and join the School of Code - a free boot camp where I started learning not only to code, but also about the tech industry and how to work in a tech team. This experience continues to prove invaluable. In my free time, I love reading, running and baking. Travelling is another passion of mine, as I love exploring new places, languages and cultures. Spending time with family and friends is also really important to me, and I love heading back home to Cornwall whenever I can to visit my family, especially my parents’ dog Bailey. Being less than a year into my UW journey (and tech career), every day is a new learning experience. From pairing with engineers on what they're working on, to watching what they’re doing and how they work, I’m incredibly excited to keep developing my skills here. I am beyond glad I decided to make the change into a career in tech, and I’m really grateful to UW for giving me that first step up. “As a Senior Software Engineer, a big part of my role is developing new functionalities that make the lives of our customers, Partners and employees easier. I’ve recently worked on two exciting projects: Autonotes and the Customer Video Assistant. AutoNotes helps our advisors by creating accurate call notes quickly and using recorded call transcripts to generate summaries. Customer Video Assistant allows customers to share a video live, helping with real-time problem-solving and diagnosis - speeding up the resolution to save customers time and hassle. One of the biggest highlights of my time at UW was when we won ‘Tech Team of the Year’ at the National Tech Awards. I was fortunate enough to attend the awards ceremony, and it was an incredible experience, celebrating our team's hard work and innovation. In my spare time, I attend church with my family and occasionally preach, though I'm a bit rusty. I love going to the gym and started running with my wife in 2023. Last Christmas, we participated in a 5km and a 7.5-mile trail race, where I dressed as the Grinch and my wife as an elf. Despite the UK's weather, we love exploring the outdoors, countryside, and beaches. I really enjoy doing a bit of ‘extra’ work. I was once in a Bollywood movie called "Salaam-e-Ishq" (you can see me for a whole half a second). I was also in a Tamil film called "Thoondil" and had a scene where I was a waiter in a boat bar.” Vitor is a Senior Software Engineer, and he recently passed his first UW anniversary 💜 #WeAreUW
