We were honored to welcome the Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero, Lord Hunt, to our Capenhurst site on Wednesday (2 October). His visit provided an excellent opportunity to highlight our contribution to the #nuclearfuel supply chain and our key role in supporting new #nuclear initiatives in the UK, as well as the UK Government’s mission to become a clean energy superpower by 2030. On his visit, Lord Hunt toured our flagship enrichment plant, E23, as well as the site of the UK’s HALEU facility, which is being supported by £196 million of UK Government co-investment. Discussions centered around the UK’s commitment to enhancing domestic fuel cycle capabilities, benefiting not only the UK but also its global allies, while driving innovation and research. The Minister also met with a group of Urenco apprentices, who spoke about their aspirations for the future. #Nuclearenergy will play a pivotal role in achieving a #sustainable and secure energy landscape and is bringing us one step closer to achieving #netzero.

Chief Nuclear Officer at Urenco Capenhurst, Mike Peers, tells #ELUK2024 conference about our new #HALEU plant being built in the UK to power the advanced reactors of tomorrow. ‘We will have a fairly intense build phase to ensure we have that fuel ready for the market in the early 2030s’, he said. Referencing the Government’s co-funding to resolve the chicken and egg problem of a nascent market, he added: ‘It’s an example of where government and industry can successfully work together.’ #AMR #SMR

Last week, UNS welcomed the Ellesmere Port Mayor, Cllr Paul Donovan to our Capenhurst site. During the visit, we were able to show our waste management, decommissioning and storage capabilities and discussed the importance of raising awareness in the local area about the opportunities Urenco can provide. On Saturday, July 20, Capenhurst hosted the annual Cosmic Cape Festival in collaboration with Urenco. The event drew over 4,800 attendees and their families. Throughout the event, a remarkable £15,000 was raised for charity, with £10,000 allocated to the Hospice of the Good Shepherd and £5,000 to The Christie NHS Foundation and Trust. The day was filled with music, entertainment, and joy. Even amidst a heavy downpour in the evening, the festive atmosphere remained undampened.
