Eight productions that contributed to the #FilmSkillsFund have been confirmed as playing this year’s Venice Film Festival (Fondazione La Biennale di Venezia) and Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Recognised as two of the world’s leading festivals for global cinema, both Venice and Toronto welcome new films from across the world for a series of national and international premieres, often setting the conversation for early award contenders. Among the contributing productions at TIFF will be Andrea Arnold’s new feature, Bird, and Bring Them Down, each starring Barry Keoghan. The festival will also see the debut of heartfelt drama, We Live in Time, featuring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh. Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci and Isabella Rossellini star in the Catholic Church-themed thriller Conclave while Hard Truths reunites director Mike Leigh with the Oscar nominated actress of his acclaimed Secrets and Lies. There will also be the premiere of Harvest, adapted from the Jim Crace novel of the same name. The film also features as part of the Venice line-up where it will be joined by fellow Fund contributors 2073, Asif Kapadia's genre-bending documentary, and long-awaited sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. In addition to contributing to the Fund, five of the productions welcomed trainees from the #FilmTraineeFinder programme, providing a total of 22 new entrants with hands-on production experience across a range of below-the-line roles. We congratulate each film for their selection and thank them for their contribution, allowing further investment in the contributed support of the UK workforce. The ScreenSkills #UnscriptedTVSkillsFund’s free #HRToolkit provides employers across the screen industries with essential advice and resources on fair and transparent recruitment processes for their crew. The toolkit was created in direct response to requests from the unscripted TV community, who wanted a set of resources to strengthen and standardise HR practices and enable more inclusive recruitment practices, especially for companies that don’t have an in-house HR team. Developed in collaboration with film and TV specialist HR consultant Lisa Balderson (Assoc. CIPD), it contains guidelines, downloadable templates and links to supporting information and resources to support companies looking to implement more formal recruitment processes across the entire employee lifecycle - from attraction, recruitment and onboarding to retention, development and offboarding.
