We welcome the launch of Skills England, announced by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson. This initiative aims to unite key partners across sectors to meet the skills needs of the next decade 🙌 However, we urge the Government to include the youth sector as a vital part of Skills England's plans. Youth work is essential for building skills and creating opportunities for young people, driving economic growth and a brighter future for all. Oscar Bingham, UK Youth Acting Director of Research and Impact, highlights: "Youth work is a ready-to-go solution that, with the right investment from government, can transform the lives and prospects of young people, with huge benefits to wider society." In 2022, Callum joined our Building Connections programme, aimed at creating stronger pathways to employment for young people. Thanks to Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, Callum attended an employment event at King Power Stadium. This experience was transformative, boosting his confidence and self-worth 💫 Callum had doubts about his ability to work due to his Autism. He aspired to work with young people but was unsure how to achieve it. Now, Callum volunteers as a youth worker, supporting young carers with activities and balancing their responsibilities. Can you believe that 30% of young people feel they will never achieve their career aspirations??? That’s incredibly sad. As businesses, we have got to do something about this. We’ve got a huge part to play in supporting the skills agenda. I’ve penned some thoughts in a feature on PoliticsHome on the role youth work plays in bettering outcomes for young people – and how we’re working with youth organisation UK Youth to create pathways to employment through our ‘Building Connections programme’, which links up youth workers with local employers. I’d love to see more businesses getting involved to help unlock the power of youth work, and help as many young people as possible access the support they need to thrive. https://lnkd.in/e-cKCHkE #youthemploymentweek

We are proud to share that our CEO, Ndidi Okezie, joined King Charles III, actor Idris Elba, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, and other leading figures at St James’s Palace to address the critical issue of violence affecting young people. The discussion, which included voices from BIGKID Foundation, Youth Endowment Fund, Bounce Back, Youth United Foundation, and The Prince's Trust, explored how alternative options such as access to employment opportunities can significantly impact young people at risk of knife crime and other serious violent crimes. We also heard powerful stories from young people whose lives have been touched by violence and from those dedicated to offering positive solutions. At UK Youth, we are committed to empowering young people and creating safer futures through positive activities and support. Read more 👉 https://lnkd.in/eBCzpw2Z

The results are in and we now know that the The Labour Party will be forming the new Government. Oscar Bingham, UK Youth acting Director of Research and Impact, said: “We look forward to working with the new Government to unlock the power of youth work for all. “In its manifesto, Labour recognised the importance of youth work and committed to expand access to this life-changing support, as well as to extend the right to vote to all 16 and 17-year-olds. “These measures, alongside Labour’s guarantee of employment-focused support, can deliver huge benefits to young people and we hope will be a high priority for the new Government."
