A £40 million contract with Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL) to build and launch our Juno satellite has been announced by the UK Ministry of Defence and Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S). Juno will be the third of our ISTARI satellites to go into orbit, after Tyche and Titania, and it's expected to launch in 2027. https://lnkd.in/eKuEhXXg
The UK will design and launch a new satellite in 2027, strengthening our intelligence, reconnaissance, and surveillance capabilities. 🛰️ Juno will be developed by Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL) who successfully launched Tyche in August this year. Space Domain Update – Intelsat 33E breakup Intelsat 33E, a communications satellite manufactured by Boeing and operated by Intelsat, broke up on Sunday 19 October 2024 at around 0530 BST. The team at the National Space Operations Centre (NSpOC) analysed the debris to understand risk to UK-licensed satellites including SKYNET 5D, a UK military communications satellite. The risk of collision was determined as low, despite UK satellites operating in the vicinity of the breakup. NSpOC will continue to monitor the incident, and any potential risks posed to SKYNET 5D and other UK-licensed satellites. UK Space Command | UK Ministry of Defence | Met Office

In September 2024, the National Space Operations Centre warned UK-licenced satellite operators of 3041 collision risks, a 42% increase from August 2024. Meanwhile, There was a total increase of 571 registered space objects. Just over 300 of these objects were additional debris pieces detected from the Chinese Long March 6A rocket breakup in August. https://lnkd.in/eXQM9cyk

United Kingdom Royal Air Force Air Marshal Paul Godfrey, Assistant Chief of Space Operations for Future Concepts and Partnerships, visited Schriever Space Force Base this week. During his visit he took the opportunity to meet with various offices and units including SpOC’s Space Delta 6, which assures Space Access through operations of the Satellite Control Network and conducts Cyberspace Operations to defend Space Force space systems. AM Godfrey joined the United States Space Force team on June 17 and is serving as Assistant Chief of Space Operations for Future Concepts and Partnerships after three years as the first commander of the U.K. Space Command.
