This World Sight Day 2024 (October 10), we’re celebrating how sight shapes the lives and future of children around the world 🌍✨ At Orbis UK, we believe that every child, no matter where they live, should have the opportunity to see clearly and pursue their dreams. But millions of children today in low- and middle-income countries sadly don’t have access to the eye care they need. We are thrilled to share that our dedicated Orbis volunteer, Dr. Michelle Le Cheminant, was recently featured on ITV Channel Television News. 🎥 Michelle, a Consultant Anaesthetist at the Medical Specialist Group in Guernsey, has just completed two weeks volunteering in Mongolia as part of our Flying Eye Hospital programme ✈️ During her time in Mongolia, Michelle trained local anaesthetists both on board the Flying Eye Hospital and in partner hospitals, using simulation tools to enhance eye care. She also shared a touching story about giving a patient Sark Island chocolate from her home in the Channel Islands, a moment that reminded her of her grandmother. Since 2017, Michelle has volunteered with Orbis in countries such as Vietnam, Zambia, and China. Her dedication to advancing global eye care is truly inspiring.
