Last week our CEO and Co-Founder Russ headed to the beautiful (and rainy!) Paris to pitch one of our #bioengineered ingredients to the Shiseido Executive Committee and leadership team at Gallinée Microbiome Skincare. To perfect this ingredient, we're using our #AI and #automated platform to design and screen >30 million bacterial strains. Selected from over 60 applicants, twig's solution was a firm favourite with the audience and we're excited to continue to champion #innovative #ingredients alongside the Shiseido team. Huge thanks to Léa Mancuso and Francesca Battaglia Trovato for giving us the opportunity, and to Marie Drago, Alberto Noé, Benjamin Tsutomu Suzuki, Sophie Masson, Christophe HADJUR, Ph.D, Florian d'HAUTEVILLE, Romain Carrega and other members of the Shiseido senior leadership team for accelerating innovation! About us
twig is a bioengineering company using AI to create sustainable ingredients that don’t cost the earth. We’re on a mission to drive a global transition away from unsustainably resourced ingredients to bio-fermented ingredients in a way that benefits everyone – people, producers, and the planet. We’re using AI to radically improve the speed and efficacy of lab-based bioengineering, creating affordable, scalable, and dependable ingredients that producers can use in the everyday items the world relies on – without compromise. We like to call this ‘bioengineering better’. A game-changing, AI-defined approach to bioengineering in which the tech drives the direction of the science. This means no gut instincts, preconceptions, or the pressure to meet short-term service contracts - which have plagued the bioengineering industry for decades - just rapid, incisive data analysis to signpost the best answers to some of the planet’s most pressing sustainability problems.

Welcome to our newest twiglet, Finn Mansfield! Finn is a first-class, MSci Medical Microbiology graduate from Bristol University. He brings all the right skills and experience to team twig; molecular biology with bacterial culture techniques plus bioinformatics tools and data analysis. He’s a keen cyclist and a great addition to our team. We’re excited to have him on board. Welcome to team twig! 💚💚Welcome to the BBIA to our newest member twig💚💚 twig is a bioengineering company. And they're here to change the future of consumer goods with #AI defined #sustainable #ingredients that don’t cost the earth. At twig, they believe that #bioengineering is the solution to our dependence on unsustainable ingredients. Their business involves the rapid creation of bio-based #synthetic #chemicals, leveraging our twig:tech platform to #engineer and optimise the highest performing strains for #commercialisation. Their automated lab means they can analyse tens of thousands of #bacterial strains each week, without human bias. Their focus is to create and commercialise ingredients, which are more sustainable than the use of #fossil fuel derived and the over-farmed and #environmentallydamaging incumbents. https://twig.bio/ Russ Tucker James Allen Satnam Surae, PhD Christina Brown Sarah Davidson Richard L.

I had the great pleasure to represent the work we do at twig at Cambridge Tech Week's panel event 'What are you really using AI for?’ Chaired by Ray Eitel-Porter (Lumyz Advisory), alongside fellow panelists George Drayson (Appella AI), Jaroslaw Rzepecki, PhD (Monumo ), and Dimitris Spathis (Nokia Bell Labs). We discussed how we leveraged AI technologies across diverse sectors including call-centres, electric drivetrain optimisation, healthcare and twig's focus in #engineeringbiology for a more #sustainable future. Importantly, we identified the commonalities across our diverse use cases, highlights include using the right tools for the right use case, the importance of data and constantly assessing quality of outputs, and building in an ethical manner. Finally, we had a couple of great questions from the audience around how we ensure we sufficiently train/coach early career colleagues on the parts of the job which have been supplanted by AI that are still core going forwards, and the potential societal upsides and downsides of wider spread AI adoption. #CTW24 📸 photo credit: Monumo

Is the UK doing enough in the global #industrial #biotech race? 🤔 I don't think so. 👏 Although there has been some great action to date... - Launch of the National Vision for Engineering Biology - Creation of an Engineering Biology Steering Group - £115M in awards for academic-focused research ...we aren't doing anywhere near enough on #infrastructure And others, in particular the USA, are forging ahead, putting UK companies at a strong disadvantage. To do better, we need novel types of funding for: - Pilot-scale facilities - Scale-up testing - Scale-up facilities 🏅 Every four years, Team GB punch above their weight in the Olympics and bring home a haul of medals. We can do the same in #engbio. The startups and scaleups can be our Olympians - give them the facilities and funding, and watch them bring home the gold! 👩🔬 As the #UKGov positions #engineering #biology at the heart of its Science and Tech strategy, it's worth considering how effective the UK is at attracting and retaining the best #biotalent. 😩 In the article below, I consider why bringing international bio talent to the UK is not as easy as it should be In short... - Visas are easy and cheap... - ...but then it gets expensive... - ...and relocation can be painful 👇 Check out the full article for how we can do better. We need to start treating the best talent in the best way possible. https://lnkd.in/g5bGCQfn 💬 If you're #buildinginbio I'd love to hear your comments below. What do you think is standing in the way of bringing the best talent to the UK?

🆘 Followers of twig, we need your help! 🆘 In 2025 we hope to be heading to SXSW where our CEO and Co-Founder, Russ Tucker will share our vision for #Sustainable #Bioengineering - how we can empower local supply chains. We think this is a very important topic, and more people need to hear about the awesome potential of biology. 🔬 But to be selected, we have to be popular. It's reminding us of those school days, waiting to be picked for a team. 😢 This is where you can help us out. Over your next cup of coffee, please take two mins to vote for us here > https://lnkd.in/g3Wr7hQ7 You will make the #twiglets very happy! 😁 And help spread the story of bioengineering far and wide! 🌎 🙏 Thank you! 🙏
