A tech-first approach to travel insurance is paramount in 2024 and beyond, said battleface’s Sasha at #MarketHubEurope this week. Travel insurance had failed to keep pace with the changing demands of travelers and the innovations offered by technology, he explained during the HBX Group conference in Istanbul, Turkey. Chief among the solutions needed was truly customizable products that reflected the shifting ways customers wanted to see the world, whether flying to Turkey for a conference or Kenya for a safari. He said: "Many of us travel with insurance policies that have not been designed specifically for our trip. Which often is the reason why our policies are ineffective when it comes to our circumstances in the event of a claim.” Sasha, speaking to peers from across the travel and hospitality industry, also explained how a unified platform for travel services, assistance and claims was more effective than a “fragmented” system which often devalued the customer experience. “Services have been outsourced to three or more different companies. Collectively we will be a lot better off. Paula referenced the quote that the FBI Director said in 2012 - ‘there are only two types of companies. Those that have been hacked and those that haven’t yet but will be, as well as adding her own, ‘those that have been hacked but don’t know it yet.’ It is more common than we would like to think, and as HBX Group sits between both sides of the travel train, what we are seeing is both sides attacked simultaneously. This year there is set to be a 3 x increase in these sorts of attacks.   Paula’s steps to be more secure include:   - always apply patches - up-to-date software will make you 100 x more secure   - not only do you need strong passwords but also two-factor authentication. This has an immediate and dramatic impact and will stop 99% of the loss of credentials   - email filters - very simple and will massively help you identify fishing emails   - use antivirus software - not free ones, invest in good ones   - back up everything all the time and store somewhere different so you can quickly restore your data   - limit access to your network very carefully - make sure you check every connection   And a final message: the travel industry is all connected, we are part of a chain from booking to experiencing a lifetime event. If one part is weak, we are all weak, we are only as strong as every link in the chain.   One break in the chain will head to consequences for us all. #MHub2024 #HBXGroup

Paula Felstead speaks of #AR #augmentedreality before speaking about #cybersecurity as the next frontier. She warns: “We do not have a good rep in the travel industry when it comes to cybersecurity. “Cybersecurity is key, we are perveyors and providers of lifetime experiences. We don’t want that lifetime experience to be oh by the way we just lost your passport number, your credit card details, home address, and everyone knows you’re on holiday. Because HBX sits between the supply side and distribution side, we see both sides of the story. We’ve seen a 3x more increase in travel on both sides. She says: “We all need to work together.” Felstead gave some top tips for businesses: 1. Always update your software 2. Always implement multifactor authentication and strong passswords 3. Have good (non-free) antivirus software 4. Use email filters 5. Turning our attention to the 'traveller of the future', HBX Group Chief Strategy & Transformation Officer, Anna Grigoryan used different personas to highlight how diverse traveller profiles book and experience travel differently.    She shared the differences in types of trips travellers seek, and how this contributes to unique booking journeys for each one, leaving us with a key message:    All we want is the experience.    There is a need for all players in the travel industry to work together to provide a seamless journey for all travellers.
