Non-profit Organizations

The world's most iconic transport network. 🌍

About us

Every day, we help millions of people to make journeys across London: By Tube, bus, tram, car, bike – and more. People don’t associate us with journeys by river, on foot or via the air, but we help with that, too. Getting people to where they need to go has been our business for over 100 years, and it shows. We’re leaders in our field, and no other city’s transport system is quite as recognisable: Red buses, black taxis, Tube trains and roundels have become icons in their own right. Our main job is to keep the city moving, working and growing but to do that, we have to listen. Constant improvements across the network are fuelled by feedback and comments from customers, as well as work within communities, representative groups, businesses and other London transport stakeholders. But our progress also depends on technology and data. With the future at our fingertips, we’ve already used it to revolutionise travel payments (think Oyster and contactless payment cards), and improved travel information. Tech and data is essential, not just to our future, but to others’: third parties use our data to power apps and services vital to customer journeys. So what’s next? As well as continuing to deliver Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan’s strategy and commitments on transport, our programme of capital investments is still one of the largest. We launched the Elizabeth line, we’re modernising services and stations and making travel safer for all.

⚡ Before the first London-specification demonstrators of our next-generation electric buses have even hit the road, orders are in place! Stagecoach Bus will receive 24 Enviro100EV small buses and 17 Enviro400EV double deckers in early 2025 for routes operated on behalf of the capital’s transport authority Transport for London. The new buses meet the latest iterations of TfL’s pioneering Bus Safety Standard and we were the first manufacturer to receive a positive result from independent impact testing of the buses’ revised front geometry, which protects vulnerable road users and improves direct vision for drivers. Our Group Sales & Business Development Manager Ben Werth comments: “This new order further confirms the incredible success of our next-generation vehicle platform, which we’ve designed in-house from the ground up to drive value for the UK bus industry through efficiency, longevity and flexibility. Stagecoach recognises our next-generation buses’ potential to deliver outstanding total cost of ownership with an electric drive system that could last two full TfL route contract terms without a need for battery replacement.” Nick Owen, Director of Buses at TfL, adds: “London has the largest zero-emission bus fleet in Western Europe, with more than 1,400 buses, and we look forward to welcoming these 41 new Alexander Dennis electric buses on our routes. These new zero-emission buses all comply with our Bus Safety Standards for safer journeys for all road users, and will also support vital jobs across the UK in various stages of their production.” Paul Lynch, Managing Director of Stagecoach London, says: “We’re looking forward to operating these buses which promise a step forward in range and longevity. They add to our rapidly growing electric bus fleet as we play our part in delivering TfL and the Mayor’s targets for London, as well as our own Stagecoach commitments on carbon reduction.” #LeadingtheZEvolution
