Today we welcomed a group of summer placement students from the UK Atomic Energy Authority Fusion Industry Programme to our Oxfordshire site. The interns, who are based with organisations including Fusion Energy Insights, Woodruff Scientific LTD and nTtau Digital LTD enjoyed a tour of our ST40 tokamak and high temperature #superconducting (HTS) #magnets lab to see first-hand where we’re developing and testing the technology that underpins our mission to commercialise #fusionenergy and contribute to a #netzero future for the UK and worldwide. At Tokamak Energy we’re also hosting our own group of students via the Fusion Industry Programme, which is run by UKAEA with the aim of building a pipeline of talent and skills to meet the needs of the growing UK #fusion industry. #FusionForAll #CleanEnergyTransition #NetZero

Our ST40 spherical tokamak is the most advanced of its kind in the world. With our 2024 #plasma #physics campaign well underway, Plasma Operations Group Lead, Otto Asunta, looks at our achievements with ST40 so far and objectives for the year, including maximising our ‘triple product’; a key measure of progress in the path to realising commercial #fusion conditions. Congratulations to Olly Glover, our newly elected MP for Didcot and Wantage and champion for meaningful action on climate change.   We are grateful to have been able to discuss our two transformative technologies during his recent visit to Tokamak Energy and for Olly to be representing us in #Westminster.   He joined David Kingham for a walk around our record-breaking spherical tokamak, ST40, and heard about the huge impact clean, secure and affordable #fusionenergy could have on building a #netzero future.   The team also discussed our pioneering high temperature superconducting (HTS) magnets and the opportunity to disrupt existing and create new markets over the next decade, including renewable energy, science and propulsion in water, land, air and space.   #GeneralElection2024 #FusionforAll

What a great way to spend a lunch hour. We were joined by Arctoris for a panel discussion to launch a new series of Milton Park (Oxfordshire) events called ‘Forging the Future’. David Kingham and Erica Thake discussed a broad range of subjects, including the strength of the Oxford fusion cluster, especially when combined with global partners, protecting technology through patenting and licencing, and new markets for high temperature superconducting magnets created by #fusionenergy. The panel, expertly hosted by Philip Simister of OBN (UK) Ltd, also discussed the increasing use of #AI in #tech and data quality for decision making, with many parallels between the two companies. The event series aims to highlight some of the inspiring companies based at Milton Park, the UK’s largest single ownership innovation community and home to over 250 organisations. Companies here are leading the way with incredible breakthroughs in medical research, bio-science, green energy and agri-tech. #MiltonPark #cleantech #FusionforAll

Our ‘Focus on Fusion’ event and exhibition at Khalifa University last September helped raise awareness of fusion within the #UAE and the region, and highlighted the many benefits of clean, secure and affordable #fusionenergy. As part of our continuing collaboration, we are now delighted to welcome Jassem Alhammadi to the UK for this exciting opportunity to work with our team, supporting a key part of our first fusion pilot plant.

Our CEO Warrick Matthews and Non-Executive Director Warren East were both on the GCV Symposium 2024 stage today to discuss the rise of Tokamak Energy and future promise of clean, secure and affordable #fusionenergy. Moderated by Maija Palmer, Global Corporate Venturing Editor, they explored the role corporates can play in the development of fusion and opportunities for collaboration, from London's County Hall, South Bank. They also spoke about their personal experience of joining Tokamak Energy, and shared learnings with the audience, after both arriving from Rolls-Royce. Our ground-breaking Demo4 high temperature #superconducting (HTS) fusion #magnet system has passed an important milestone. We’ve now successfully validated cryogenic test results on all toroidal field (TF) limbs in our liquid nitrogen bath at -200 degrees Celsius. Each TF limb consists of two HTS coils being joined, resin moulded, and embedded into a structural steel ‘clam shell’. Demo4 comprises 14 TF limbs along with two poloidal field coil stacks, to form a balanced set of magnets in a #tokamak configuration, which will allow us to test them in #fusion power plant-relevant scenarios for the first time. Assembly and sub-system commissioning will continue over the second half of the year with full system commissioning due to start in Q1 2025. Creating #fusionenergy requires strong magnetic fields to confine and control a plasma several times hotter than the centre of the sun.
