    2024 has brought important updates in U.K workplace legislation aimed at supporting women and families. At Thor Companies, we acknowledge these changes as steps toward creating a more inclusive and balanced work environment. Here’s a quick look at some of these significant updates: 1️⃣ Flexible Working Rights From April 2024, all employees in the U.K have the right to request flexible working arrangements straight from day one. This legislation not only removes the previous 26-week waiting period but also requires employers to consult employees before declining a request. With the demand for work-life balance higher than ever, this move is a big step forward in supporting family-friendly work environments. (source: Gov U.K) 2️⃣ Enhanced Parental Leave Protections Recent updates have strengthened job security for parents and expecting mothers. This includes protections against redundancy for women returning from maternity leave and extended parental leave for parents of pre-term babies. These changes help ensure that mothers and partners have more support and security as they navigate both career and family responsibilities. (source: Brightmine) 3️⃣ Childcare Funding Expansion To make childcare more affordable, expanded funding is helping families balance work and family responsibilities more effectively. For instance, beginning in September 2024, eligible working parents will receive 15 hours of funded childcare for children aged 9 months to 3 years. These changes are part of broader reforms aimed at closing the gender pay gap and creating more opportunities for women to re-enter the workforce or take on additional working hours.
