About us

THIS is what happens when two meat-lovers checked out meat-free food, and decided that we didn’t want any of it. We had a job before we co-founded THIS, in 2019. We established and ran a burger (as in, beef) restaurant chain. As far as u-turns go, this is a whopper. When we left that business we realised some stuff: That maybe we should eat less meat. Fairly urgently. That if you don’t like tofu, or food with orange packaging, you don’t have much of a meat-free choice. That we should make plant-based food and deploy our secret-weapon, following it as our guiding star: our obsession and adoration for meat. The obvious(ish…) conclusion, was that we had to make our own plant-based meat-alternative products. Food that PROPERLY works in a fry-up or in a chicken-pie. And so, we made THIS. It’s ridiculously high in protein, it tastes sensational and it’s produced by people who won’t guilt-trip you if you also eat meat. Enjoy

    One of our Senior Research Scientists at THIS, Lily Nur Sulaiman, is speaking at the Future of Protein Production conference in Amsterdam on the 24th October. Ahead of the event, she's shared some of her incredible knowledge on everything to do with the nutritional value of plant-based meat which we would love to share.     As we catch up with some our 100 speakers at this year's Future of Protein Production Amsterdam, taking place on 23/24 October 2024, here we meet Lily Nur Sulaiman, a Senior Research Scientist at THIS™, who discusses the importance of nutritional value in plant-based meat. She highlights the need for innovative approaches to create products that are both nutritious and appealing to consumers. When asked what advice she has for researchers who are just starting out in the plant-based proteins field, she highlights how important it is to keep up with the current state-of-the-art. "For such a fast-moving sector, my advice would be to stay updated with emerging plant-based trends around new proteins, technologies and innovation, as well as nutrition and consumer trends,' she begins. "Finding opportunities to work on collaborative projects with industry and universities/research institutes will expand your horizons to build multidisciplinary relationships that can fast-track the development of your research ideas into real products.     THIS is something we’re pretty excited about...we’ve joined the B Corp mentoring scheme alongside some of B Lab UK friends: Ella's Kitchen, COOK Trading Ltd ,Lily's Kitchen Vivobarefoot and Riverford Organic Farmers. Through this program, mentors and mentees across these brands are matched up to share expertise, exchange fresh ideas, and support each other’s career growth. It’s all about tapping into a big pool of wisdom, skills, and experience from some seriously smart people. It’s a great opportunity to support the team with their personal and professional growth, as well as offer them new perspectives and opportunities to learn from people’s experiences within different businesses and organisations. We’re pleased to say 16 of our team members have already signed up as mentors or mentees.
