The Talent Crossing Ltd

OPEN. TO. WORK   Three little words. Huge meaning.    Most terrifying post I’ve written.    Here goes.    In 2012, at the age of 28, one of my favourite humans Hasan Khair helped me walk my new path into Founder of The Talent Crossing. I’m forever grateful that he did.    For 12 wonderful years we’ve worked with the absolute best businesses in Creative and Tech and the biggest brains in People & Culture. I’ve had the privilege to bear witness to (and hopefully shape in some way) the incredible progressive change we’ve all seen and experienced in the profession; the elevation of this important business function and (at long last) a universal recognition that People matter most!     We’ve shaped game-changing PEX and P&C teams globally, managed contingency recruitment, led Exec-search, contracted inhouse partnering with internal TA teams, delivered KPIs, secured global PSLs, hit SLA targets, worked with big budgets and helped shape specs around smaller budgets, even co-produced a TV series! It’s been quite the ride!    But it’s 2024 – this year I’ve turned 40 – and become a new mum again – and honestly I feel different. Ready for professional newness and excited by the prospect of a new team, new challenge, new business, new skills, new adventures.    What of The Talent Crossing? Remaining in the safe and capable hands of Mark Rimmer who has done a phenomenal job at the helm whilst I’ve been out on mat leave. On Monday pm the baby fog lifted for a few hours as I attended the Culturevist event hosted by Matt P. And what a few hours it was!   You’ll have seen many posts on here regaling the huge richness of content as delivered by the exceptional speaker team; Marie Krebs, Lauren Gomes, Megan Trotter, Natasha Delisle-Barrow – I won’t repeat what you’ve already read…   What I will say is this – the emergence of non-traditional (that is to say non-linear /or non-‘HR’ trained) People people has never been so apparent, nor so exciting... !   I’ve been at this for a long time and have been both witness to and complicit in the evolution from HR to modern-day People & Culture. But whilst style, approach, philosophies have shifted and evolved, there has still been a relatively unevolved blueprint for the intrinsic make-up of any ‘HR’ profile. Until now.   On Monday I saw an explosion of current and future People talent whose career journeys were not fused to any linear HR pathway. I met former UX folks, Designers, Product peeps, community managers, Marketing gurus, coaches, Founders turned People People…….each uniquely experienced professionals with ambitions, interests and (f*ck it, let’s say a LOVE) for all things current (and experimental) in People & Culture.   The integration and utilisation of this diversity of skills/thinking clearly complements any progressive People team. Demonstrated so beautifully by Marie Krebs and Lauren Gomes. A dream duo. And showcased by the likes of Jessica Z. in her radical approach to people team hiring. People who’ve removed rigid disciplinary boundaries from hiring and optimised for creating limitless skills hiring for truly holistic teams.      For me, as Founder of The Talent Crossing, it feels as though we’re on the precipice of real change in our People community – one which finally opens the doors to a more diverse, interdisciplinary, cross-vertical, talent pool than ever before.   Thank you Culturevist for an incredibly insightful afternoon. Great to see everyone. And for anyone interested to learn more about the subject matter, I’d highly recommend the forthcoming deeper-dive sessions scheduled for the months ahead.   Right back to nappies, weaning and twinkle-twinkle… still onboarding this one to planet earth.
