The Paris 2024 Organising Committee's rent, reduce, reuse, and recycle approach to this year's games has set a new standard for global sporting events. Paris 2024 - Comité d'organisation des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de 2024 aims to reduce carbon emissions from the London 2012 and Rio 2016 games by 50%, with a budgeted 1.58 million tCO2e—equivalent to powering over 200,000 homes' energy usage for a year.  How will they achieve this? By measuring previous games' footprints, the committee pinpointed carbon hotspots such as construction, furnishing, catering, and travel, applying innovative solutions to reduce their impact and conserve resources. For example, previous Olympics, such as London 2012, saw significant carbon emissions from new buildings. This year, by renting 95% of the infrastructure, Paris 2024 is substantially lowering its carbon footprint. At Planet Mark, we have a saying. You can't manage what you don't measure. That's why we are proud to support businesses by calculating their carbon footprints so they can make informed decisions about reducing them. Leveraging carbon data to support your sustainability journey is the only way to make measurable and meaningful carbon cuts. Ready to minimise your environmental impact? Start by measuring your footprint with us. Find out more here.  https://lnkd.in/eeasNxkY

We may not have won, but it doesn't mean we are not proud. Reaching the final twice shows incredible resilience and talent from the England team. We were all proud of the dedication and spirit. While football is a beloved sport, it is also a carbon-intensive one. However, UEFA EURO 2024 marked a turning point in making the tournament more sustainable. They have aimed to produce about 490,000 tonnes of CO2, which is equivalent to powering 96,705 homes with electricity for one year. If successful, it would achieve an 18% decrease in carbon footprint compared to Euro 2016 in France, which had approximately 600,000 tonnes of CO2-eq emissions. Source: Oeko.de and BBC. So, what have they done differently? UEFA introduced numerous sustainability initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint. Highlights include subsidised rail travel for fans, the use of renewable energy, and sustainable infrastructure. From the energy-hungry stadiums to the travel demands of fans and teams, the environmental impact of the Euro 2024 is significant. That's why it's excellent that UEFA aims to integrate sustainability into the core of future tournaments, including Euro 2028 in the UK & Ireland and Euro 2032, co-hosted by Italy and Turkey. The goal is clear: to balance the passion of football with a commitment to our planet. Here's to England and the 2028 Euro games. #Euro2024 #Sustainability #GreenFootball #UEFA #ClimateAction #FootballForFuture https://lnkd.in/edthGCsG https://lnkd.in/eJ-Sb_ew
