𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆. 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗿𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟯 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Carryanne Smith, a Teaching Assistant apprentice, was in her fourth year working in a primary school when she came to Get Set UK. She was eager to gain a recognised qualification to support her career development, build her confidence, expand her knowledge and skills, and deepen her understanding of different year groups and unfamiliar parts of the curriculum. Carryanne's Get Set UK Learning and Development Mentor, tailored the apprenticeship programme to fit Carryanne's specific needs, aligning assessments with relevant training and day-to-day activities in her school. Her Learning and Development Mentor worked closely with both Carryanne and the school to ensure she received regular off-the-job training while managing the demands of her job. Their strong working relationship, and effective communication, ensured Carryanne met all her SMART targets and completed assignments on time. She successfully achieved her Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, earning a pass and a Distinction. 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀. 𝗟𝘂𝗰𝗶 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹-𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽. Luci Barber, 23, wanted to progress a career in customer service. She came to Get Set UK and we matched her with an employer on a Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship where she could develop the skills she needed, gain work experience, earn certification and bring in a wage. Luci was lacking in confidence and struggling to pass her Functional Skills in English and Maths. Working closely with her Learning and Development Mentor, Ellis Davis she identified the areas where Luci was struggling and worked with Tim Owen, Functional Skills Tutor to provide the support Luci needed to pass her Functional Skills and support her throughout her Apprenticeship. With Ellis and Tim’s encouragement and expertise, Luci developed the skills and knowledge she needed which boosted her confidence and self-belief. After successfully passing her functional skills assessments, Luci went on to achieve a triple distinction in her end-point assessment and successfully secured a permanent position with her employer. 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁. 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. Dina Flores Avelar was referred to our Multiply numeracy course to complement the support she was receiving as part of the Restart programme in our Crawley office. As English wasn’t her first language Dina wanted support to boost her maths skills and confidence and to improve her English-speaking skills to help her find employment. Sharon Marie Brown and Edgar Muzvidzwa, Get Set UK Multiply Tutors worked closely with Dina to address her barriers to employment and created a personalised support plan which allowed Dina to move at her own pace. Whilst on the Multiply programme, where Dina completed two numeracy courses ‘Basic Maths’ and ‘Money Management’, Edgar and Sharon discussed several employment and self-employment options with Dina, one of which was to volunteer at the Citizens Advice Bureau. With Edgar and Sharon’s support, Dina contacted the Citizens Advice Bureau to join them as a volunteer. This will allow her to gain valuable work experience, boost her confidence and upskill within a new industry of her choice. A recent poll by the Samaritans found that only 45% of people feel comfortable talking to family and friends about suicidal thoughts, compared to 74% who said they feel comfortable talking about mental health. In partnership with the Mayor of London and the Greater London Authority (GLA), we are expanding our delivery of Skills Bootcamps in Leadership and Management across the Hospitality, Care, and Logistics sectors in London. This complements our existing Digital Skills Bootcamps available in Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk, and London. Skills Bootcamps are fully funded for individuals and part-funded up to 90% for businesses. Our new Level 3 Skills Bootcamp in Leadership and Management is tailored for those aspiring to step into management roles, equipping them with the essential skills needed to advance into managerial positions with an accredited qualification and guaranteed job interview on completion. Starting in September, these Skills Bootcamps are open to individuals aged 19 and over in London. Suzanne Tilling, Education Director commented: “Skills Bootcamps provide sector-specific training helping people gain the relevant skills they need to pursue a career in their chosen industry. With this contract, we can support career growth in these priority sectors by offering a highly regarded and versatile ILM qualification. 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘂𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸. Our Skills for Work courses provide training for Londoners aged 19 who are looking to kickstart their career or boost their existing skills. Courses are 100% government-funded and run each month in our offices across London. Aari, aged 26, is a video editor. He joined our Skills for Work Creative Industries course as he was looking to develop his knowledge in this area and bolster his employability skills as he had been out of work for 12 months. With support from his tutor, Mark Phoenix, Aari learned about the different sectors in the creative industry, the recruitment process, the importance of setting goals as well as how to tailor his CV and job interview prep.
