𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀. 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗶 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. Asifa Shakoori is a refugee from Afghanistan and had been in the UK for just over a month when was referred to the Restart Scheme in our Crawley office where she was enrolled on our free Multiply numeracy programme to boost her maths skills and confidence. Inspired by the programme, she encouraged her siblings, Hanifa and Mohammad, to also join. The Multiply programme covers basic numeracy skills and helps people to prepare for work by understanding the UK tax system, better-off calculations, bank accounts and financial scams. As English wasn’t their first language, Edgar Muzvidzwa and Sharon Brown, their Multiply course tutors adapted the course to ensure they understood and followed the sessions which also helped to develop their confidence. The 3 siblings all successfully completed the course and requested materials they could retain and use for reference as they move on with their new life in the UK. Sharon Brown, Multiply tutor commented, “It was a real pleasure to teach this family of siblings. I hope their future dreams and goals are fulfilled”. 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁. 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘆 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝘆, 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲. Ricky Davies and his daughter Vanessa, enrolled on our Multiply programme to improve their numeracy skills. Ricky is dyslexic and struggles with reading and writing. He was concerned about how this would impact him on the course as he often has to rely on his family for support. Sharon Marie Brown, Get Set UK Multiply Trainer, addressed Ricky’s concerns and created a personalised learning plan. She broke the programme into one-hour sessions and embedded reading and writing techniques within these sessions to motivate and engage Ricky to speak, ask questions, learn new vocabulary and write down his thoughts. Now that Ricky has completed the course, he feels more confident in his job search and has added this to his CV. Sharon commented: “It was a great pleasure to support Ricky and his daughter in their Multiply journey. 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲. Last week Amy McManus, Get Set for Work Employer Consultant attended the Big Breakfast Event at Market Field College. The event brought together employers from Essex who were interested in employing people with learning disabilities and wanted support on where to start. There were talks on work experience and accessible apprenticeships. Amy talked about our Get Set for Work programme and how we can help businesses create a more inclusive workplace, employ people with learning disabilities and/or neurodiverse needs and support them on their journey to becoming Disability Confident employers. Amy commented: “It was amazing seeing different businesses open to hiring people with learning disabilities and neurodiverse needs. 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀. Congratulations to one of our apprentices, Daisy Mulchinock, who recently passed her Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship. Daisy started her apprenticeship with Get Set UK in November 2022, supporting the Sales Team by placing learners in apprenticeship positions with employers across East England and London. Working directly with learners Daisy supported them in deciding which apprenticeship would be best suited for them. Daisy now joins Get Set UK as an Apprentice Recruitment Administrator. Daisy commented: “I recently passed my Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship with Get Set UK, achieving a double distinction in my last 2 exams. I received continuous support from my Learning and Development Mentor, Debbie Phillips and Manager Andrea Gregory.
