Fantastic to hear from SpaceX that their Transporter-11 Falcon 9 rocket is scheduled for launch this Friday 16th evening at approx 7:20pm UK time! This launch vehicle is carrying precious cargo.. and most precious to us here at SSTL is UK Space Command's Tyche satellite.. which can be seen on the far left near the bottom of this very cool pic just released by SpaceX.

We are celebrating the successful launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 of our innovative intersatellite data relay terminal, LEGERA™ on the TYCHE Earth observation satellite for UK Space Command built by Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL). This is the first terminal of its kind manufactured in Europe, specifically in the UK - a member of the Five Eyes alliance. The low SWaP-C space-qualified relay enables near real-time data communications for LEO SmallSats, via Viasat's global L-band network. Persistent satellite connectivity is vital for defence and government operations. Overcoming the limitations of traditional ground stations, our data relay terminal offers constant on-demand ground contact for LEO satellites and provides a continuous link between LEO SmallSats and Earth through geosynchronous satellite relay. Throwback Thursday to ... Invent: Life Sciences Season 2 Episode 5! 🎙️ In anticipation of Season 3 of Invent: Life Science, join us as we take a dive back into some of last season’s most memorable moments. Is there an alternative to animal testing? To ensure human safety, drug regulation currently decrees that animal study is a prerequisite to approving clinical human trials. However, this poses ethical and practical complications. Explore the future of in vitro testing with your host, Stuart Lowe, and our guests’ expertise: 🩺 Sylvia F Boj, CSO of HUB Organoids. 🩺 Bas Trietsch, co-founder & Chief Technology Officer of MIMETAS (Netherlands). The energy transition calls for the rollout of a huge range of technologies: ⚡solar PV ⚡wind turbines ⚡electrolysers ⚡grid-scale batteries All of these depend on power electronics. But we have moved away from simple, static systems in which a small number of fossil fuel-fired power stations put power into a grid and end users take it out. Our consultant, Richard Harwood, argues that his move to smarter power networks calls for smarter power electronic solutions which play a more sophisticated role in power conversion and control than ever before. In the fast-evolving world of genomics, we're on the brink of a major breakthrough that promises to make sequencing more affordable and accessible than ever before. The last major challenge? Library preparation. In this blog, Simon Lesbirel looks at three key advances are set to revolutionise this process: 1. Advanced Automated Liquid Handling Solutions: From electrowetting to blister packaging innovations, new liquid handling technologies are automating library prep with unprecedented accuracy. Tecan's MagicPrep NGS is a game-changer, reducing hands-on time to just 10 minutes for DNA/RNA sequencing. 2. Innovative Molecular Tools: Techniques like tagmentation streamline the process by combining fragmenting and sequencing adapter addition in one step. Bead technologies are also simplifying workflows, with enzymes conjugated to beads minimising the need for complex liquid transfers. 3. Bespoke Automation Solutions: Customised solutions like the Long String VANTAGE system by Hamilton Company and Bionano support high-throughput isolation of ultra-high molecular weight DNA. These advancements pave the way for tackling complex genomic applications with ease. The journey toward affordable sequencing is reaching new heights, opening up a world of industrial applications and bringing us closer to a sustainable future in genomics. Could Remote Patient Monitoring become a victim of its own success? There are many benefits to RPM, but its adoption may fail without implementation driven by user-centred design, human factors-based testing and thorough risk planning. If the drug delivery industry is to make the most of this technology and ensure its successful adoption, it needs to avoid the twin dangers of overreliance on automation and excessive scepticism about it. Our Human Factors Specialist, Dan Lock has highlighted the findings from a study TTP conducted on how the ironies of automation might apply to RPM. What can nature teach us about the best way to build obstacle detection systems for autonomous platforms? Well, put simply, combining multiple complimentary senses makes it easier to detect the huge range of potential dangers that lurk in the wild! We partnered with Small Robot Co to create a sensor fusion system that helps their robots navigate challenging environments whilst reducing reliance on human monitoring. The technology our team developed combines cameras and radar with classical algorithms to reliably detect obstacles, even under tough conditions. This means safer, more efficient operations for a wide range of applications. Read the full case study: https://lnkd.in/eUhz5nYQ #sensorfusion #safetyfirst #robots
