ECGs can be very difficult to interpret for individuals who don't regularly see ECGs. There's so much to it than just squiggly lines! Our 12 STEMI Aide-memoire card remains popular amongst ambulance staff and students. Whilst this aide-memoires serves as a great tool, it shouldn't be solely relied on. Do you practice your clinical interventions and practical skills in different environments? ⛱️ ⛳ We call this CS-CS: Clinical Skills in Changeable Settings. Which is something we attempt to implement wherever we realistically can. For example: Pelvic Binder application on different grounds, such as grass, sand or even pebbles. This promotes confidence in a products application and also user competence for within different pre-hospital arenas. . . . . . Train like it's real. Someone might just depend on it. ⚡ Casualty Simulation :: Not a real patient. 📸 www.medicslodge.com [email protected] Alford Group | The ATACC Group

It's really important when planning work on job sites, be they in remote and austere environments or not, to consider first aid provision. All to often here in the UK the approach is tick box, there is a First Aid at Work (FAAW) qualified person on site with an "HSE compliant first aid kit" and no further thought is given to the matter. It is really important, and a legal requirement setting aside any moral obligation, to ensure you have on-site a person or persons with training and expertise appropriate to the environment and risks. What is required in an urban setting in the UK, is not going to be the same as needed on a remote site in West Africa or Greenland. Sometimes an individual with a FAAW certificate (but are their skills up to date?) will be appropriate but other times there will be a need for some extended skills such as provided by a Wilderness First Responder, a paramedic or even a doctor. On occasion it will be appropriate for more than one person to be first aid qualified, perhaps at different skill levels. Personally I like everyone to have the absolute basics, i.e. CPR and management of catastrophic haemorrhage, with at least one, ideally two, people trained to a level appropriate to the job and environment specific risks, including consideration of likely response times by professional medical services and or medivac. On a related note, make sure the first aid kit is tailored to the risks, environment, the skills and competencies of the first aiders. One size does not fit all and I'd argue that standard "HSE compliant first aid kit" from the corporate catalogue rarely is enough. Think about the need for an AED depending on the risk profile. There are some great devices out there at a variety of sizes, weights and prices. Perhaps consider something like the CellAED if you need something small, light and portable? There are an array of great training organisations out there. From a personal perspective I've found the teams at Remote Area Risk International®️ and Frontier Risks Group to be good for my purposes. In summary, think about the location and site specific risks and tailor your first aid provision to fit. #firstaid #wildernessfirstresponder #mining #security #travelriskmanagement
