Following a major review to include our Net Zero commitments and the new Mayoral Development Corporation area, we have now published our updated Park Design Guide. Underpinning all LLDC’s work are four priority themes: delivering inclusive growth and community well-being; delivering inclusion and diversity; delivering high quality design; and delivering sustainable development and responding to climate emergency. LLDC ensures these priority themes are applied to the development plots and the remaining parkland areas, to maintain the design excellence seen through Games time, and provide a consistency of high quality, accessible public realm, biodiversity and play as a lasting legacy. This guidance sets out the expected standards for ensuring that good design, climate resilience and biodiversity are sustained across the open spaces of the Estate, whilst integrating place making principles as part of the ongoing management of the Park. This update reflects LLDC’s commitment to The Paris Agreement and our target of net zero carbon by 2030. Our approach is to consider climate risk and embed climate resilience and nature positive design in order to deliver an exemplar, future ready Park and surrounding neighbourhoods. This guide is an update to the existing Park Design Guide 2018 and supersedes all previous versions: https://bit.ly/3WdZrER

Building an Inclusive Legacy: London 2012 and Beyond! 🌟 ‘Thanks for the warm up…’ anyone remember that slogan from 2012? It was used to promote the Paralympic Games. A tongue-in-cheek remark to the Olympic Games that had concluded two weeks earlier and what was to come next. It set the tone for what was the most attended Paralympic Games in history. London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games set new design standards, making them the most accessible Games ever. The London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) continues to build on a legacy that has accessibility at its core. Inclusive design is our priority in infrastructure projects, featuring: 🚆 Excellent public transport access 🛣️ Dropped kerbs ♿ Wheelchair-friendly steps at East Bank 🏡 Lifetime homes A key highlight of the Paralympic legacy is the Global Disability Innovation Hub (GDI Hub), launched in 2016 by the Mayor of London. It drives innovation in assistive technologies, changing lives worldwide. The LLDC’s work in the field of women and girls safety is award-winning. Earlier this month, the LLDC supported by Arup, launched a new handbook to ensure that places are designed to be equitable for everyone, including women and girls. How can we design cities and places that are safer and more inclusive for all, including women and girls? Last Thursday, London Legacy Development Corporation launched its ‘Creating Places that Work for Women and Girls’ Handbook, developed in collaboration with Arup. This handbook seeks to ensure that places are designed to be equitable for everyone. London Legacy Development Corporation is the first Local Planning Authority that has fully mainstreamed gender-informed design and planning processes, and the first organisation in the UK to publish such guidelines. The knowledge and good practice have now been compiled into a handbook providing practical steps that urban planners, developers, architects, and other stakeholders can take to ensure a gender-informed approach is applied in the planning, design and decision-making process, from the inception of any project through to delivery and long-term management. 👉 Read and download the handbook here: bit.ly/4d1nm1e 👉 Read the press release here: bit.ly/3S8e77m #womenssafety #genderequality #builtenvironment #planning #urbandesign #inclusivespaces
