We recently launched our Summer of Music series at The London Clinic – a six-week event initiative which uses music as therapy and sits within our survivorship programme to support patients with cancer.  These live music sessions bring calm and joy to our Duchess of Devonshire Wing (Cancer Centre), and we’ve had some wonderful feedback from patients and visitors: “I love listening to your melodies. It brings harmony and a smile as soon as you hear it. Thank you. Wonderful choice of music too” “Excellent idea – it was so nice to relax and listen to the music before my appointment.”  “A beautiful and fantastic addition to the healing and wellbeing process.  A great effort – thank you all!” #HealingThroughMusic #SummerofMusic #TheLondonClinic #CancerCare #TherapeuticMusic

Congratulations to our first DAISY Award® Honouree of 2024: Mariana. Mariana Devezas, is a Clinical Nurse Specialist in our Colorectal/Stoma unit, who is now the fourth nurse from The London Clinic to receive the prestigious DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses at The DAISY Foundation™. Mariana was nominated for the award by Gina Tillotson and her husband Ian, who has colon cancer and was in The London Clinic for a sub-total colectomy.     The DAISY Award® is an international recognition program started in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Pat’s family experienced first-hand the difference his nurses made in his care through clinical excellence and outstanding compassionate care. The family created The DAISY Award ® to express gratitude to nurses and to enable other patients, families, and staff to thank and honour their special nurses.    If you are a patient or former patient of The London Clinic, a friend or relative of a patient, or even a member of staff and you would like to nominate a nurse, you can use this link https://lnkd.in/eP7_3UEV which takes you to an electronic nomination form or pick up a paper form on the wards, complete the details, and drop it into a nomination box The DAISY Foundation

Game, set, match! 🎾 We’re excited to share that our very own Sajjad Afzal, The London Clinic’s resident Consultant #Podiatrist, has been at #Wimbledon supporting the athletes with foot and gait related issues (for his third year in a row). Saj was also on-site throughout the qualifying competition and is now stationed at the Wimbledon grounds treating sports injuries, assisting with biomechanics and providing gait analysis. "On the grass courts injuries are commonly associated with the dynamic fast movements and change of direction. Blisters are commonplace and can become an issue for players, so early treatment and prevention is essential. I also see and treat damaged and bruised toenails due to impact trauma which can lead to hematomas under the nail plate – also extremely painful!” 👟 As a big tennis fan himself Saj has had a blast watching all the action. “I feel a massive sense of satisfaction to help these incredibly talented and dedicated players reach their full potential and help them to the goals of their dreams.”

Networking opportunities are essential as they encourage collaboration, leading to more efficient teamwork.  We recently held our summer BBQ for consultants, GPs and secretaries which provided a perfect relaxed environment for colleagues to connect outside of work at a lovely venue at the Royal College of Physicians. It was a fantastic opportunity for us to recognise and celebrate the hard work and achievements of The London Clinic and show appreciation for our colleagues. Events like this also enable the sharing of expertise and best practices within, and across different areas the organisation, improving overall performance.   Thank you to the 150 people who attended and here’s some of the great feedback we received:  “So good to see everyone in a relaxed happy setting” “Thank you very much for providing this event, it is hugely appreciated by the team, myself, and practice managers” "Happy and positive celebration of team”

We are excited to announce that The London Clinic is the first independent hospital in the UK to offer Rhenium-SCT®, a groundbreaking non-invasive treatment for non-melanoma skin cancers. Developed by OncoBeta - epidermal radioisotope therapy, this innovative treatment uses rhenium to deliver precise, controlled radiation directly to the skin surface. With a remarkable 98.5% success rate in tumour regression, Rhenium-SCT® offers a painless alternative to surgery without the need for anaesthetics or aftercare. Dr Saqib Bashir our Consultant Dermatologist, highlights the benefits: "Patients can walk in and out with just one treatment session, making it ideal for those with multiple lesions or tumours in difficult-to-treat areas."
