“Our rains are already a month and a half late” Shilajit Roy Choudhury, a Fairtrade tea supplier based in southern India, spoke to The Guardian about climate change impacts and the need for fair prices. “I’ve just been in India where the north-east is having a drought and the south is having too much rain and farmers are talking about productivity down 40%,” says Anna Mann, associate director for responsible business at Fairtrade Foundation. “The price of tea hasn’t changed in a decade. We’re looking at one of the first times when there might be shortages and it will have to shift.” https://lnkd.in/es-2FRyT

Congratulations to The Fairtrade Foundation on their 30th Anniversary. 🎉 Fairtrade supports over 2 million farmers and workers, addresses climate change challenges, and promotes fair wages. As we celebrate this milestone, it provides an opportunity to reflect on the incredible impact this movement has had in supporting fair prices for producers and farmers worldwide. While reflecting on these achievements, we must also remember that there is still much to be done to ensure fairer prices, empower farmers, and act urgently in the face of mounting challenges. This weekend marked International Day of Cooperatives, celebrating the strength of cooperatives around the world. Today we’re shining a light on the LEAP Program's Farmer Field Days in Cote D’Ivoire 👇 In collaboration with Mars and ECOOKIM, Fairtrade Africa organised these Farmer Field Days to create a platform for exchanges between farmers, technical partners, and agricultural service and input providers to help enhance the livelihoods and ecosystems of cocoa-growing communities, using a ‘market systems’ approach. This included connecting farmers to providers of information, inputs and services on agricultural insurance, machinery, agroforestry, and technology. Over 3400 cocoa farmers from the CAVA, COOPAPIG, CAKIB Agricultural and CAUD cooperatives took part. The Livelihoods Ecosystem Advancement Program (LEAP) is a five-year cocoa initiative in Côte d'Ivoire. It aims to make a difference in the economic and social well-being of 6000 cocoa farming households, comprising an estimated 42,000 household members. Read more here: https://bit.ly/4cBgnN6
