The Daniel Adamson Preservation Society (the charity behind The Danny) would like to extend its thanks to all guests who came onboard earlier this month to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the rescue and preservation of the SS Daniel Adamson. Heartfelt thanks also for the support of our sponsors, volunteers, and partners who have played such a crucial role in transforming 'The Danny' into a dynamic living museum and maritime education project. The anniversary event marked another significant milestone in The Danny’s remarkable journey and that of all those who have come on it with us so far. Looking forward to another 20 years, and beyond! PS. The Danny is very proud to have been nominated in the Positive Impact category for the Mersey Maritime Industry Awards this year. The Danny is very proud to have been nominated in the Positive Impact category for the Mersey Maritime Industry Award this year. Please vote for The Danny using this link: https://lnkd.in/eRvhxGQS To be eligible to vote you need to work in the maritime/supply/energy sectors. You also need to provide Mersey Maritime with your name, company name and a valid company e mail address. Voting window: Monday 16th September until Sunday 29th September The following statement outlines the contribution The Danny has made this year. Over the year The Danny has worked with 5 sixth form colleges and 7 youth organisations to connect over 150 young people in the Liverpool City Region with their maritime heritage and make them aware of the importance of the port today. The jobs and opportunities in the sector for young people have featured strongly. The Danny has also hosted visits from primary schools, scouts, guides and cadets, youth groups and young people in alternative education. Three packed family cruises have taken place, with teddy bear trails for the children to explore the vessel and learn how she works. There have been 5 family activity events and 30 presentations have been made to historical societies, U3A and other groups, The Danny has hosted 30 free open days with tours of the vessel and has undertaken 40 days of cruising on the region’s waterways. Comments that young people have made include, ‘this project has made me feel hopeful about the future and decarbonisation’, a young person with additional needs has said ‘ this project has made me feel that we can have a voice if we work together, and can make things happen in our area’, and a parent said ‘this project has given my daughter her confidence back’. The whole project is run by volunteers, with only two employees, and winning this award would recognise the enormous achievement they have made in saving this vessel for the region, and also the enormous efforts they make in using it to connect generations and communities through maritime heritage and maritime experiences. Your support is very much appreciated.
