Great to welcome visitors from Biogenie Remediation UK LTD to the Mining Heritage Centre at our Mansfield HQ. It was a chance to give them a tour of our unique archive of maps and records, which still underpin much of our work to protect people and the environment in coalfield areas today. There was also an opportunity to visit our nearby A-Winning mine water treatment scheme in Derbyshire. Across our sites, we are working to enhance nature and wildlife and make sustainable and environmental improvements for our coalfield communities. Here's an example of some of our work to enhance wildlife at a mine water treatment scheme in England: ✔ Installed a tree hive for natural colonisation by wild bees - now a hive of activity! ✔ Installed a Sand Martin nesting box where Sand Martins have already nested successfully and reared young ✔ Managed grassland to maximise species diversity and are pleased to see the arrival of orchids These valuable additional habitats are just some of the improvements we are carrying out in support of our Nature Recovery Plan, which we have just launched online here: https://lnkd.in/eNe3fcUM #sustainability #environment #CoalfieldCommunities #wildlife #nature

Last week, colleagues from teams across our business were standing at Geotechnica 2024, bringing together the UK’s largest geotechnical suppliers, manufacturers and contractors in Warwickshire. It was a great opportunity to share more about our work to keep people and the environment safe, ongoing work with drilling contractors and the recent changes we have made to our permitting terms and conditions which will support business in the drilling sector. #GeoTechnical #Geotechnica24 Equipe Group

At one of our sites in Derbyshire, we'll soon be carrying out some ecological surveying work as part of our forthcoming Nature Recovery Plan to give us a detailed understanding of the wildlife and types of habitats found there. Part of the site includes public access to a woodland walk and nature trail. The route is available all year round and features some beautiful species including two types of native heather, which are uncommon in the area. The new survey will shape how we look after the site to benefit these rare habitats. This is part of our commitment to the environment, sustainability and making improvements for residents on the coalfield. #Derbyshire #Nature #Environment #Sustainability #MiningHeritage

It’s been a busy couple of days at UKREiiF 2024 and lots of exciting opportunities have been discussed. James White, Ian Hughes and Phil Broughton from our innovation by-product and service delivery team have been showcasing our work. This includes projects within the property and construction industry as well as revolutionary methods to recycle and reuse materials, such as the by-products from our remediation schemes. It was great to see our mine water heat work feature on Channel 4 News last night. The TV crew visited the fantastic Gateshead Council and Lanchester Wines schemes to see how water in former mine workings is being used to provide low-carbon heat to homes and businesses. A day of contrasts today, visiting two more nature-rich The Coal Authority sites in both very rural and very industrial locations in NE England. Allerdean Mill and Lynemouth gave us loads of fab wildlife: great egret, reed warbler, and orange tip butterflies everywhere in rural arable landscapes, then orchids, oystercatchers and skylarks in the industrial landscapes. This means that there will be no charge to access and use the Coal Authority’s mining data for activities that the public sector is delivering in support of their core role and purpose.
