Today the UK became the first G7 country to phase out coal, showing that climate policy can drive coal off the system. It is an important milestone that can serve as inspiration for even bolder policies in the UK and across the world which support the rapid uptake of renewables and set the path for a full transition away from fossil fuels used in the energy mix. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gqfFNDmh

Today the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) announced its technical working groups to support the update of their suite of corporate standards. We’re delighted that two Carbon Trust experts, Leo Cheung and John Kazer, have been appointed members of the Scope 3 technical working group, playing a pivotal role in the revision process. Through this group, they will be working on topics related to the impact of corporate actions and market instruments in GHG emissions reporting. Since 2017, the Carbon Trust has been working with leading nutrition company Glanbia on its decarbonisation journey. 🌱 By delving into Glanbia’s climate risks and emissions from its full value chain, in particular its dairy supply, we empowered the company to go beyond mere reporting. The company now has the confidence and the building blocks to implement its transition plan and the costs required to achieve this. Here's how ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e77x9X7Q

Today the Sustainability Joint Industry Programme (SUS JIP) has released new guidance for measuring the carbon footprint of offshore wind farms! The first-of-a-kind methodology increases the transparency and comparability of the carbon impact across the value chain, helping developers to identify opportunities to further reduce the emissions of their offshore wind farms and for investors to compare projects based on carbon emissions confidently. The methodology is a collaboration between the Carbon Trust and SUS JIP partners, comprised of 12 offshore wind developers. The initiative aims to help the global offshore wind industry accelerate decarbonisation efforts and continue to contribute to meeting Net Zero targets by 2050. As always, thanks to our SUS JIP partners bp, EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG, Equinor, Fred. Olsen Seawind, Parkwind, Ørsted, RWE, ScottishPower Renewables, Shell, SSE Renewables, TotalEnergies, and Vattenfall. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eGc-ETDJ

As offshore wind turbines continue to grow larger, with blade tips reaching 250 m high, there is a requirement to obtain accurate wind resource and site condition measurements at higher heights. Building on previous work in the Offshore Wind Accelerator Programme, the Tall Floating LiDAR System Trial for Offshore wind 'TaLiSman' project will deliver a comprehensive trial involving intercomparison of various floating LiDARs, met mast instruments, fixed LiDARs, scanning LiDARs from shore and secondary instrumentation. The project is expected to deliver a body of evidence to support using floating LiDARs for measurements at high heights which can be used by wind farm developers to drive down uncertainties on their commercial projects and improve bankability. The TaLiSman project kicked off in July 2024 and the measurement campaign that began in September. We are calling all floating LiDAR providers to reach out to learn more about how they can be involved in this project! For more information, please refer to: https://lnkd.in/eu5YhKbH Funding partners: EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG, Ørsted, RWE, ScottishPower Renewables, SSE Renewables, TotalEnergies, and The Crown Estate. The technical delivery of the project is led by Oldbaum Services Limited. Scientific approach and analysis is led by Fraunhofer-Institut für Windenergiesysteme. #OffshoreWind #OffshoreWindIndustry #LiDAR

What are the technical and operational challenges the e-commerce packaging sector faces in reaching Net Zero? Our Packaging Sector Leads, Vivien Mc Ewen and Sophie Hammond recently shared insights at the Smithers E-Pack Europe event on practical strategies and innovations crucial for driving the e-commerce packaging sector towards Net Zero. Key takeaways from the session were: 🎯 To stay competitive, e-commerce companies must take ambitious climate action. Over the past four years, 17 times more packaging companies have committed to science-based targets. 🚛 E-commerce supply chains have more contact points than retail, making effective communication with supply chains crucial. ♻️ Key levers for e-commerce packaging companies achieving Net Zero include designing circular products, optimising logistics to reduce emissions, and developing transparent communication plans to enhance customer relationships.
