We are The Advocacy People, a charity that is here to help. We listen and help you to be heard.
About us
As an independent charity, all of the services we provide are free and confidential. We all know how hard it can be when we don’t feel listened to, when what’s important to us isn’t taken seriously by others, or we just don’t have the words to say what we really feel or want. It can be even more difficult when decisions are being made about our health and social welfare. We’re The Advocacy People and we can help. We’ll take time to understand your situation, explore the options and help you decide what you want to do and how you want to do it. We can give you as much or as little support as you want to put your views across. We won’t judge you, tell you what to do or take over things when you can do them yourself: it’s your life and you deserve to be heard.

The Advocacy People reposted this
Yesterday I found myself hanging off a harness in the middle of the New Forest during my latest adventure with a young person who is currently in Foster Care. For a while now I’ve been volunteering with The Advocacy People and once a month I meet up with a 15 year old young person I’ve been matched with. Sometimes we visit the cinema, grab a hot chocolate and have a walk to chat about life, or sometimes we even take part in our new shared passion and go second hand vinyl shopping! It’s been incredible to to see the change from someone who would only mumble to me through the hood and scarf that covered their face. To yesterday hear them cheer me on from afar as I anxiously jumped off into the zip wire! We laughed all day, swapped stories about what’s going on for us both and ate chips and discussed their future. It was a day fillers with optimism and hope. For both of us. I’m sure I get much more out of the visits then they do, whilst life can sometimes (especially in January!) feel more surviving then thriving - these days out can be a real highlight in the month. There are over 100,000 children across the UK and Ireland in care. In Southampton alone that’s 550 young people and i’m one of only 60 volunteers who support these visits locally. That’s 490 young people who miss out of having the stability of a meaningful relationship with someone impartial to their life. If you think you could give a few hours a month of your time - check out The Advocacy People on the south coast or similar schemes across the country. I’m starting my Monday with the energy and positivity from a great weekend and all of those hopeful thoughts of a future for my young person in my head. A great way to start my week.
