As part of South Asian Heritage Month, our Racial Equality Group organised some delicious South Asian dishes provided by Cats Pyjamas to bring together colleagues in our Leeds office to really get a flavour of the cuisine and the food that's an important part of the culture To wrap up South Asian Heritage Month (18 July to 17 August), we’ve rounded it all off with an informative lunch and learn session from Tetra Tech Director Glyn Utting, Chair of the Board of Trustees for the charity Community Action Nepal, who elaborated on his work in the Nepalese Himalayas and the area’s rich history. Today Tetra Tech celebrates the momentous achievement of Senior Transport Planner Clara Evans, who is on her way to Paris to represent Team GB in the Olympics! Clara had this to say about her incredible news: “Making the Olympics and representing Team GB is something I never thought I’d be able to say, but after years of hard work and consistently improving, I’m absolutely delighted to be heading to Paris. Being the reserve and then getting called up has been a rollercoaster, but I know I’m only there as someone has dropped out with injury, so I feel for them and wish them a speedy recovery. I’m really excited to represent GB and a big thanks to my friends, family and team for the support!” Clara will be representing Team GB in the Women’s Olympic Marathon on Sunday, 11 August, 7:00 am BST. American nuclear giants Holtec recently visited Kingmoor Park in Carlisle as part of a potential £1.3bn scheme to construct a manufacturing unit in the UK for Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). As a key local representative and advocate for Cumbria, Tetra Tech Europe and UK Division President Craig Hatch joined notable champions of the county, including council leaders, MPs, chief executives, education leaders, and business leaders who met with Holtec after the site visit. Craig commented on the visit, noting that: “Cumbria’s rich history as a civil nuclear hub in the UK is matched only by the area’s unwavering dedication to clean energy solutions and advanced manufacturing abilities. The RPS City Planning Team and UK Ministry of Defence representatives joined us for a roundtable discussion on opportunities across the MOD estate. Several matters were discussed, including the relevance of Social Value in creating integrated communities for military families and the local population. Tetra Tech is a key contributor to the Defence Supplier Forum Social Value 101 Guide. The RPS City Planning Team joined forces with our colleagues at Tetra Tech Europe to host a roundtable client meeting focused on the portfolio and opportunities across the UK Ministry of Defence estate. Following recent government announcements to turbo boost housing delivery and green infratsructure provision, it was a timely breakfast discussion with Sherin Aminossehe, the Director of Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) & Air Cmdr Paul Yates, UK Ministry of Defence. To help frame the discussion, Louise Sheppard, our rising future talent, presented a client briefing (see link below) which sets out the quantum of the defence estate, the remit of the DIO, their strategic objectives and how the role of the DIO are enabling and managing the MOD’s estate. The discussion provided an insight over the direction of travel for the estate, the opportunities for partnership delivery and provided a clear understanding on what the priorities are for homes and infrastructure that are required. With a new Government now setting out its stall for growth, public estates will play a role and it was clear from the discussion how the private sector can work with the DIO in helping to repurpose sites and also look at the delivery of new ones across an estate which spans c.344 ha and houses 135k military personnel, 59k civilians and 33k volunteer reserves. It was a hugely valuable discussion which our invited guests found engaging with plenty to follow up with. Our colleague, Andrew Fotherby also provided attendees an insight of how we work to enable MOD sites which will provide additional assistance when looking to unlock opportunities across the estate.
