Team Forces delivers social impact across the armed forces community through the power of sport, challenge and adventure. Our initiatives improve health, wellbeing and recovery by promoting excellence, equality and inclusion. We help the best get better. We promote excellence and help the Forces’ sporting talent to succeed by reducing the cost of participation, supporting grass roots activity, and by encouraging and assisting our elite athletes to compete at the highest level. We also increase the opportunity for our injured troops to take part in competitive sport. Standards are high, many are already competing in open competition at international level with their sights set on the Olympics and Paralympics. Since our launch in January 2011, we have distributed over £13m in grants to nearly 80 service sports associations, many of whom have never before enjoyed private sector funding.

Team Forces is excited to be supporting Zara Lachlan on her incredible challenge to row over 3,600 miles across the Atlantic Ocean solo and unsupported. This is a huge task as she will be rowing for 15 hours a day for around 90 days and will have to tackle Orcas, 20ft waves, Marlins and Pirates on her journey! Zara is hoping to break three world records: - Youngest person to row solo and unsupported from mainland Europe to mainland south America - First female to row mainland Europe to mainland south America solo - Youngest female to row from any mainland to mainland across the Atlantic solo! Bit of a recap this week on what I was up to last week. For those of you who don’t know, Antarctica is reasonably crevassed - we’re in a pretty decent position to know where a lot of these are now, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t any risk. As part of my preparation for the South Pole this winter, I was out in Switzerland with a friend of mine, and general military and mountain legend, Harry, who I know through the Adaptive Grand Slam Day one out in Swiss was all about technical rope work, and getting back into the environment - so we set up a load of pulley systems using various devices, so higher-tech than others. These will be used to pull stuff (pulks, for example) out of crevasses if they go in, and can also be used to extract people (although I’m on my own, so little hope of that!) In addition, we did some Via Ferrata, which I’ve never done before, and was really cool - no technical ability required, and is basically climbing ladders on the sides of mountains and rock faces - great way to get back into familiarising myself with the feeling of vertical exposure, and always good to learn new skills! Thankyou BBC News (Westcountry) for speaking to me about my upcoming challenge. With just over 4 weeks to go, it's getting very exciting, and busy! The whole journey is going to be watched by 3 people. Documented, filmed, and every single cm that I travel will be accounted for. Leaving no doubt that I will have covered every single bit of the journey. It will be Strava'd and Garmined but we all know one of those could be put onto a bike, or shoved into a car. So they're not reliable for this. We are also lucky to be sponsored by BYD South West who have loaned us an amazing car with top notch tech, so I think everyone will know where we are and when 😄
