We are Teacher Tapp, an informative app for teachers across the UK. Get daily insights into the education sector.

About us

The Teacher Tapp app asks teachers three questions each day at 3:30pm and then allows teachers to find out how other teachers answered the questions and delivers a daily bullet of professional development. The community of teachers is gradually revealing a picture of what affects teacher’s morale, effectiveness, and likelihood to stay in the classroom, whilst simultaneously making teachers more aware of their own working conditions. Answering the daily questions isn’t a big commitment – we find it takes between 7 and 15 SECONDS each day. It is designed with busy teachers in mind. Do it while wandering back to the staffroom when school finishes, or while walking to your car, or while sitting on the bus or train, or while waiting for a kettle to boil at home, or while sitting in front of the television. Anyone can download the app, but the survey questions are currently designed for those who work in a school in England, whether state or private. The questions are really designed for teachers, rather than teaching assistants or other staff, though you may find many interesting. For now, teachers in early years settings, further education, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and the rest of the world won’t find the questions make sense a lot of the time. We will be giving you more suitable questions in the near future.

Bye bye blackboards 👋 Just 1% of teachers used a blackboard when we asked in 2018, now no teachers use them. If only Teacher Tapp had existed 20 years ago to document their demise from ubiquitous classroom tool to dusty (literally!) relic.   But with blackboards out of the way, what's next? Over the past six years, use of whiteboards has dropped 5 percentage points. They are still the most used display tool, but might they be heading in the direction of their dustier counterpart?   Use of interactive whiteboards is increasing (up 6 percentage points) as are visualisers (up a whopping 14 percentage points).    Our question for you: Are your resources compatible with these display methods?!

Teachers aren't paid to participate in Teacher Tapp, but we do like to make sure we thank them 🙏 We do this in a couple of ways... 📊 We share results with them everyday; 📑 We write a weekly blog featuring in-depth analysis; 📖 We offer a daily read that aims to support classroom practice; and 🏆 We have monthly prize draws.    The prize draws are very popular, in the past year we have given away umbrellas, dinners, shopping trips, outings, and more! Now YOU can get involved too.    We are offering sponsorship of the monthly prize, which will see your brand or product named alongside the giveaway in an extensive list of places including on the app, in our teacher newsletter, and across our socials.   There are only 9 slots available which will be allocated on a first-come-first served basis. Which schools use commercial standardised tests 🤔 The majority of primary schools use commercial standardised tests at KS2. Of these, over half are using the tests several times a year across several year groups.    There are one or two exceptions though... ⚪ Schools with better Ofsted ratings appear to use the tests less often and are the group least likely to use them at all. ⚪ Independent schools also have a different profile with significantly more running them once a year rather than at multiple time points. This finding was first shared exclusively in the Teacher Tapp newsletter. Get in touch to find out more about this dataset or to commission your own Teacher Tapp questions. We also have a handy list of our top testing and assessment questions, we'll pop the link in the comments 😘
