We are Teacher Tapp, an informative app for teachers across the UK. Get daily insights into the education sector.
About us
The Teacher Tapp app asks teachers three questions each day at 3:30pm and then allows teachers to find out how other teachers answered the questions and delivers a daily bullet of professional development. The community of teachers is gradually revealing a picture of what affects teacher’s morale, effectiveness, and likelihood to stay in the classroom, whilst simultaneously making teachers more aware of their own working conditions. Answering the daily questions isn’t a big commitment – we find it takes between 7 and 15 SECONDS each day. It is designed with busy teachers in mind. Do it while wandering back to the staffroom when school finishes, or while walking to your car, or while sitting on the bus or train, or while waiting for a kettle to boil at home, or while sitting in front of the television. Anyone can download the app, but the survey questions are currently designed for those who work in a school in England, whether state or private. The questions are really designed for teachers, rather than teaching assistants or other staff, though you may find many interesting. For now, teachers in early years settings, further education, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and the rest of the world won’t find the questions make sense a lot of the time. We will be giving you more suitable questions in the near future.

New research including Teacher Tapp data 👇
🚨New report: What can quantitative analyses tell us about the national impact of the phonics screening check? 📝 Our new report published today examines the impact of the national phonics screening check (PSC) on early reading development in primary schools across England. 📖 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/erCj4xRx 👇 The report finds that: 🔺 There is no evidence of improved Key Stage 1 reading results: The report finds no evidence that key stage 1 reading results improved as a direct result of the PSC’s introduction in 2012. 🔺 There is no evidence that key stage 2 reading results have improved since the introduction of the PSC. 🔺 There is no evidence that the PSC has narrowed attainment gaps by the end of primary school. The research also looks at gaps between higher and lower-attaining groups of pupils and finds no evidence that the PSC impacted positively to narrow gaps at key stage 1 or key stage 2. 🔺 There is a relationship between not passing the PSC and being identified as having special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND): The report suggests that children who “fail” the phonics screening check are more likely to be newly recorded as having SEND in year 2. 💡 The report makes the following recommendations ➡ The Department for Education should commission and publish a fresh, evidence-informed review of whether the phonics screening check is an effective national intervention that helps children learn to read. ➡ The Department for Education should transparently and widely consider the costs and benefits of the check, and of alternatives: including no check, and other strategies for supporting children’s reading development. ➡ This review should be undertaken by independent experts with a range of knowledge, including of children’s reading and literacy development, and of practices and pedagogies within primary schools.

New Teacher Tapp polling out today 👇
More than Maths! Financial education needs to be taught in more than just maths lessons, according to 9️⃣0️⃣ per cent of teachers. We commissioned a poll which found that teachers overwhelmingly agree on the need to embed financial education across different subjects. Three quarters of respondents thought it should be embedded in PHSE while 4️⃣0️⃣ per cent said it should be included within Citizenship lessons. Russell Winnard, Chief Operating Officer at Young Enterprise, said: “Too often, questions to the government about how they can do more to support young people’s financial capability are consistently routed back to maths provision, with limited consideration of the role of other subjects in developing financial capability. The Curriculum and Assessment review is a rare opportunity to elevate financial education without overburdening teachers. Training and resources exist for effective delivery, but uptake will remain low until the government explicitly recognises financial education as ‘more than maths’.” 💡#AppliedLearning methods have been shown to boost attitudes to learning, attendance and attainment, as well as build #essentialskills for the future. Giving flexibility and providing resources to educators to embed applied learning in a way that suits their setting and their students, whether in PHSE, drama or geography, means more young people can be better prepared for the ever-changing world of work, and for their futures in general. 👉 Read all about it here: https://ow.ly/KXww50TZcZc #FinancialEducation

More and more teachers are using AI to help them with their school work. In the past 6 months teachers using AI 'in the past week' has increased from 20% to 31%, and those who say they don't know what AI is has dropped to zero. Phase doesn't make much difference to usage, but senior leaders do seem to be using AI a little more than classroom teachers. In secondary schools, English teachers are the most likely group to be using AI. In primary, teachers in KS2 are more likely to use it than their EYFS/KS1 counterparts. We are currently planning an AI-focused Brand Tracker. Get in touch if you'd like to be involved. #edtech #AI #schools #education #research #data

Project Manager at Evaluate-Ed Ltd. Passionate about making education better. 10 years teaching experience, including middle leadership. Dedicated to life long learning.
In the latest data from Teacher Tapp I’m really concerned that only 46% of teaching staff feel appreciated by the leadership team! What’s more alarming is that this figure is on a downward trend! Working with #MATs and #Schools I know the pressures that all staff are facing, including the leadership team! So what can we do to make all staff feel appreciated? 👏 Thank staff for their hard work, dedication and commitment - regularly! 👏 Recognise staff members contributions and talents 👏 Listen to ideas and encourage feedback. 👏 Create a psychologically safe and supportive environment. 👏 Praise individuals 👏 Get the students and community to send thank you messages. 👏 Reward staff. 👏 Make a colleague a cup of tea or coffee! I’m sure there’s lots of incredible ideas in action hidden in our schools, so let’s share them and make our teachers feel valued and loved! They are absolutely incredible and do a job like no other! www.talent-edmatrix.com

Though the content has been heartbreaking, it's been a real privilege to work with the Teach First team on our press launch today around the effects of child poverty creeping into the classroom. We've received some great coverage from the likes of LBC News, The Independent and Big Issue, among others. Our poll of 7000 teachers and 1800 school leaders found that school leaders working in the most disadvantaged areas are currently using their school budget to purchase: ➡ Additional food for hungry pupils (60%) – double that of the most affluent schools (30%). ➡School uniforms / clothing for pupils in need (68%) – compared to 40% of the most affluent schools. ➡Sanitary wear (46%) – compared to 27% of the most affluent schools. ➡Toothbrushes and toothpaste (18%) – nearly four times more than affluent schools (5%). When asking teachers which issues are most affecting pupils because of tightening budgets, the poll found: ➡3 in 4 (76%) report that pupils with special educational needs (SEN) are not receiving adequate support. This jumps to 85% for primary schools. ➡Almost 3 in 5 (59%) report that their workload is too heavy to teach effectively. ➡2 in 5 (41%) report that disadvantaged pupils are not receiving adequate support. ➡1 in 3 (32%) cannot afford to hire new teaching staff.
