🚨 Cyber Security Skills Shortage in the UK 🚨 The latest Government report reveals a significant gap in cyber security skills across the UK, impacting about 637,000 businesses. This worrying shortfall leaves many enterprises vulnerable, as staff lack even the basic skills outlined in the Cyber Essentials framework. In particular, advanced skills like penetration testing are also in short supply. An estimate indicates that approximately 390,000 businesses are similarly affected. This gap is further complicated by the increasing integration of AI in cyber security tasks, which underscores the urgent need for skills in AI tools and cyber security machine learning specialisms. Despite the demand for cyber security professionals cooling, there are some bright spots. Student enrolment in cyber security courses has risen by 14%, and the number of professionals in the sector has increased by 5% over the past year. However, diversity remains a persistent challenge. Although there's been progress in past years, the numbers for 2023 show no significant improvement. The key recommendations from the report include: ✅ Developing the entry-level talent pipeline to address market cooling. ✅ Focusing on AI-related skills in cyber security. ✅ Retaining graduates and broadening pathways to industry employment.
