Fantastic to see so many people at the official opening of the Albert Hall on Cradock Street a little earlier today. Led by Welsh firm LoftCo, the development includes a food court, shared workspaces, meeting rooms and accommodation. Supported by the Welsh Government through the Transforming Towns initiative, the restoration and transformation of the 160-year-old building is one part of a £1bn regeneration programme that’s unfolding across Swansea. Schemes led by Swansea Council include work to restore and transform the historic Palace Theatre building on High Street, which will be reopening on November 7. Cllr Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader, said: "It's great to have the Albert Hall officially open once again - and to see the fantastic transformation by LoftCo. "Everybody interested in Swansea should take a look and see that they have another reason to enjoy their fast-improving city centre. "This new use of a much-loved heritage building is already a hit with the local public who are enjoying its food and drink offer. Visitors will also benefit from its hotel-style accommodation and local businesses will enjoy doing work here. "I'm delighted that the council was able to help bring this project to fruition and to save another essential part of Swansea's heritage for future generations. "The nearby Palace Theatre building will also soon come back to life - and we have big plans for buildings at the Hafod Morfa Copperworks which will help make that area a great visitor destination. "The Albert Hall and lots of other projects are evidence that the city's council driven £1bn regeneration is forging ahead – and there's lots more to come. "The combination of the Albert Hall and the Palace Theatre and 71/72 Kingsway projects - once operational - will add over 1,000 jobs to the city centre." ➡️ https://lnkd.in/d-FPbVUc

Following three years of extensive renovation, Swansea's iconic 136-year-old Palace Theatre building is set to reopen on Thursday November 7. The landmark is being brought back to life, thanks to funding from Swansea Council and £4.9m from the Welsh Government. The project, led by the council and assisted by R&M Williams and GWP Architecture, is part of the council-driven £1bn city regeneration plan. Lead tenant Tramshed Tech is Wales' leading co-working network and innovation hub. The restored Palace Theatre building will feature six floors of versatile workspace including co-working, meeting rooms, office space and podcast studios. The historic theatre stage is being preserved as an event space and collaborative co-working area while the ground floor will become ‘Da Coffi’ - Tramshed Tech's independent coffee shop. The opening marks Tramshed Tech's expansion into Swansea, adding to their existing locations in Cardiff, Newport and Barry. Cllr Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader, said: “We're delighted that Tramshed Tech have announced an opening date at the Palace - and to have them on board to run this beautiful building that we're saving for future generations. "Our work - and Tramshed Tech's expertise - will breathe new life into the Palace. I’m looking forward to it reopening as a base for local people running businesses there. “It’ll be a catalyst to help regenerate the city centre and its High Street area which has seen tens of millions of pounds of investment in recent years, bringing new opportunities, homes and improved commercial premises across the city centre. I thank all those who have worked on the fantastic Palace project." Louise Harris, CEO at Tramshed Tech, said: "As a proud Welsh company, we are honoured to be part of the Palace Theatre's next chapter. This historic landmark is treasured by the local community and has been a cornerstone for over a century. "We've worked closely with local partners to ensure that the building's history is respected, and its legacy preserved while adapting it for the future. “Our vision is to create a space where Swansea's rich heritage meets its bright future - a place where local business owners can spark conversations, foster collaboration, forge partnerships and facilitate game-changing innovation.” Jayne Bryant, the Welsh Government's Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government, said: “It’s wonderful to see how our Transforming Towns programme is supporting the renovation works to bring this listed building in the heart of the city centre back into active use. “The redevelopment of the iconic and prominent Palace Theatre building serves as a crucial catalyst to help regenerate Swansea’s High Street and I can’t wait to see how this project will benefit both businesses and the local community.”

💻 Openreach has announced that eligible homes and businesses in Bishopston could soon get better broadband with the support of the UK Government's Gigabit Voucher scheme. It's been identified that the community is in scope for full fibre broadband, helping to make poor internet connectivity a thing of the past. Eligible residents have already started to pledge Gigabit Vouchers to bring full fibre broadband to Bishopston by applying for and pooling together their free Government Gigabit Vouchers to help fund the build. The broadband upgrades are integral to kickstarting economic growth for local businesses, as well as ensuring that people can access vital services they may need now and in the future. Benefits range from improved access to healthcare through virtual appointments and remote health monitoring to better connectivity that allows people to stay in touch with family and friends to combat isolation. Ultrafast broadband delivers faster speeds, and it won't slow down at peak times. This means no more battling for bandwidth, with the whole family being able to seamlessly surf, stream and download at the same time. For the work to go ahead, the voucher take up would equate to 76 homes and businesses. So far, the response has been incredibly positive with the current number of pledges towards the funding goal standing at 87%. Head here for more information ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eN6VDFUK

Swansea has one of the UK’s highest economic growth forecasts for the next year, according to a new report. Of the 52 cities included within PwC’s 2024 Good Growth for Cities report, Swansea came seventh in that category. The report has also found that Swansea’s £1bn regeneration programme is making the city a more attractive place for investors and businesses, helping point to a prosperous future. Relative to other cities in the UK, PwC says Swansea performs strongly across the house price-to-earnings and income distribution indicators. They also say there’s been a marked improvement in Swansea since last year’s report against indicators relating to owner occupation, youth skills and work-life balance. Cllr Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader, said: “Our £1bn regeneration programme is aimed at helping create an economy in Swansea that benefits local people by attracting more businesses and creating more jobs, so the economic growth forecast projected for the next year by PwC makes for encouraging reading. “It’s also encouraging to read that analysis shows affordable office spaces in Swansea, a high graduate retention rate and an effective rollout of government funding here has helped start-up businesses survive and grow, and that the number of businesses in Swansea has risen steadily over the last five years. “The report, though, only uses data that goes up to 2022 – and current data shows Swansea has moved further ahead since that time, so there’s a lot to be optimistic about.” The PwC report is regional and also covers Swansea’s travel-to-work area which includes some heavy industry, helping explain why areas like air quality are highlighted as challenges. Cllr Stewart said: “Like all areas in the UK, the Swansea region does have its challenges but we’re doing all we can to address them. This includes progress which is being met in our drive to become a net zero city by 2050.”
