Five years ago today, I made a risky decision… dropping out of Uni. It was definitely a leap into the unknown, but looking back, it was the best decision I ever made. Here's a glimpse into the journey that unfolded since then: 🚀 2017: In my first year of Uni (studying accounting and finance) I started freelancing supporting Ecom brands with their email marketing. I had never done marketing in my life but that wasn’t going to stop me. With the help of youtube, facebook groups and some paid courses I was off! 💸 2018: I hit my first $10k month in revenue and decided it was time to leave university and go all-in. I also became a partner in an Ecom brand I was working with, but within three months, that venture hit a rough patch, sending me back to square one. 🌱 2019: That's when I officially launched Underground Ecom, and my flat mate and now business partner, Jamie Watkins, joined the journey. With the guidance of our mentor, Jonathan DeCollibus, we started growing, and growing, and growing. 📉 2020: But, the founder life is a roller coaster - back to square one again. I made some mistakes, and we found ourselves bleeding money every month. The lowest point hit in January when we lost a crucial client and realised we had only three months' worth of cash reserves left. 💥 2020: Fast forward six months, and we were booming once more, hitting our first $100k month. 🤝 2021: Fate led us to Jim Lewcock, and we secured investment from BLUE14, opening doors to a vibrant community of performance marketing founders. Until then, the journey had often felt lonely, but now we had a supportive group of like-minded founders to learn from. This marked a major turning point, and we more than doubled our business, expanding to over 100 team members. 🌟 2022: The vision for the supergroup was born— a network of best performance marketing companies, growing through mergers and acquisitions. The entire year was dedicated to structuring the group, and by December, we were ready to launch! Underground Ecom and Version Two became our first founding companies to be acquired into the group. 🚀 2023: And here we are— supergroup is live, and I've stepped into the role of CEO. Exciting M&A opportunities are on the horizon, and we're buzzing for the future. So that's it, a wild ride, loads of amazing people, and an exciting future - Glad we did it! I’ve never really shared much about our journey up until now and have always felt a little awkward talking about it. But I’m going to try to share more and hopefully, anyone reading can get some useful insights out of it. Cheers ✌
