City Hall scoops top sustainability accolade 🏆 ♻️ Sunderland's City Hall has been awarded a prestigious environmental award for its efforts to reduce emissions and embrace sustainable practices. 👍🏼 The building at Riverside Sunderland has been awarded the Silver Accreditation by the Investors in the Environment Scheme (iiE). From construction through to completion, ecological responsibility measures have been proactively put in place to improve the building's environmental impact from the offset. A 'City Hall Green Champion Forum' was established early this year to carry on this work, focusing on various aspects affecting City Hall's carbon footprint, including energy efficiency, local procurement, waste reduction, and promoting active travel. Discussions and ideas generated at the forum has already led to the introduction of waste and coffee cup recycling bins, eco-friendly products from local businesses being promoted, as well as a bug hotel on the building's green roof to attract more wildlife to the site. City Hall has also taken part in activities such as office shutdowns to conserve energy and hosted free bike maintenance sessions, encouraging staff to participate in a more sustainable commute to work. 🚶🏾 🛴 🚲 Read more https://orlo.uk/NuRew

Sunderland's most hotly anticipated hospitality venue is 'filling up' with yet another tasty tenant officially being unveiled. 😃 Deep North, an independent doughnut and coffee shop will launch its Wearside venture in one of two new-build kiosks at Sheepfolds Stables 🍩 The black clad 'kiosk' building is positioned in one of the courtyard areas, and is designed to resemble a similar structure that would have stood in its place back in 1884 when the site was a working stables yard. Deep North has built up a cult following across the North East, thanks to its artisan doughnuts and speciality coffee. The company operates a scratch bakery, making all elements of its doughnuts in-house and producing a fresh batch each day following a 24-36 hour process of making and proving dough, rolling, frying and decorating. Deep North's experienced baristas serve speciality coffee, primarily from coffee partner Allpress, using top of the range coffee equipment including a trademark orange La Marzocco espresso machine. 👉🏽 https://orlo.uk/nE9u7
