Meet Jordan Laudermilk, a Senior Onboarding Analyst based in Boulder, Colorado 🇺🇲 Jordan helps small business owners across the United States get started with SumUp's financial tools while ensuring new clients meet our security standards. "My journey to SumUp highlights how unique and supportive the company is. My background is in Human Resources Management, and before joining SumUp, I worked in staffing and software sales. When I interviewed here, I had no experience with onboarding. But instead of focusing on what I didn't have, my manager understood I had the necessary soft skills and mindset to help new merchants succeed. Interestingly, there are similarities between my previous roles and what I do now. Just as you assess the accuracy of a candidate's CV when recruiting or researching potential clients before making a sale, I apply the same critical thinking when evaluating and onboarding new merchants. While other companies might not have given me a chance to be interviewed, SumUp recognised my potential, and here I am almost 4 years later. I deeply value collaboration across different markets at SumUp. Our global teams' support is instrumental to our success in the US. This year, we had the honour of hosting Hack Week 2024 at the iconic Pyramid of Tirana. This historic Albanian landmark was exclusively closed for our global engineering, product, and design community, providing the perfect location for a week of innovation, creativity, and collaboration. Under the theme "SumUp the Parts," teams united to merge SumUp products and services into pioneering solutions. With over 250 SumUppers from 16 office locations worldwide, Hack Week was about more than just hacking—collaborating across teams and bringing bold ideas to life. Sierra Castillo works as Head of Analytics at SumUp's Boulder office in Colorado. As a key member of the USA team, Sierra plays a vital role in driving SumUp's decision-making through data analysis, helping small business owners across the country succeed. "After graduating in mechanical engineering, I began my career in the automotive industry in California. While the work was interesting, I discovered that my true passion lay in data analysis. In 2021, I relocated to Colorado, and SumUp was looking for a data analyst. I knew it was a great opportunity and the ideal fit for me. I joined the company in October of that year. The Analytics team's mission is to provide the insights that ensure we're making the right financial, sales, and product decisions — and to help us quickly pivot when needed. "After moving to Berlin, I was struck by the lack of widespread card payment options like I was used to back in Poland. SumUp's mission to make cashless payments more accessible resonated with me deeply, and I was excited to join the company to support this mission. Joining SumUp, I've seen firsthand how our work simplifies the lives of small business owners, enabling them to focus on growing their businesses. I'm always excited to see SumUp card readers in use worldwide. It's even more rewarding when I spot merchants using our app on the register and tablets—this reflects the advancements our team tirelessly works on to improve the check-out experience, such as revamping the navigation and enhancing the user experience on tablets, are making a real impact. Each interaction with SumUp merchants reaffirms the positive difference we're making in their businesses. SumUp has been instrumental in my career progression. Starting as a mid-level engineer, I was entrusted with more responsibilities and grew into a senior role within 1.5 years. This rapid advancement showcases SumUp's commitment to developing its employees' skills and careers. Hosting Mobile Chapter meetings has sharpened my presentation and knowledge-sharing abilities.
