We have been awarded a new contract by Luton Borough Council to manage its waste treatment facilities and drive up #recycling rates in the borough. From October 2024, we will manage one waste transfer station and two household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) in Luton, supporting its ambition to become a #NetZero town by 2040 and achieve its target recycling rate of 60%. Well done to our team for getting the streets of North Kensington looking spotless after #NottingHillCarnival! The team collected the same weight as 27 London buses of waste during what's considered to be Europe's largest clean-up operation. https://lnkd.in/e9J2CtSt
It’s been another fantastic Notting Hill Carnival with more than a million people attending over the bank holiday weekend. Thank you to the organisers, police, stewards and our partners for making it all come together. And a huge thanks to our Council staff. We had approximately 116 staff and 190 contractors working over the weekend. Our licencing team granted licences to 300 food stalls and 38 live sound systems to support the 72 Masquerade bands, 11 steel pan bands and over 100 live stage acts. Our parking team were out early to make sure roads were clear and safe for Carnival goers and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who worked tirelessly behind the scenes so that there was minimal disruption to residents. Plus, a massive thank you to the team of 200 staff and 30 refuse trucks from SUEZ UK for cleaning and collecting rubbish. Over the two nights they collected the same weight as 27 London buses of rubbish and approximately 30 per cent of the waste will be recycled.

It's #WorldWaterWeek! As part of our triple bottom line approach, we have undertaken measures to save over three million litres of water in the last year. Some of the initiatives include: 🌊 Installing rainwater harvesting systems such as water butts, saving 142,100 litres of water. 🌊 Installing water volume reducers into toilet systems, saving 15,000 litres per year. 🌊 Using rainwater to supply supporting systems and water from roadways and gullies to supply a bottom ash basin. We're supporting Yarrells Preparatory School Ltd. in Dorset on their sustainability journey. We have worked with Preliminary Front End Engineering and Design contractors for two carbon capture projects in the East Coast Cluster, in preparation for an application for funding from the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero.
