⚡️Visual Communication is the Future ⚡️ The new generation, Gen Z and Gen Alpha, are highly visual people. They don’t have the time or patience for reading, and the rise of platforms like TikTok and YouTube is a prime example of this trend. Technology and infrastructure have paved the way for this shift. Fast streaming of high-quality images and videos is now possible, and social platforms have democratised content creation, allowing anyone to become a content creator. With widespread access to information, content is constantly competing for attention and becoming increasingly visual. Why is this happening? It’s because our brains process visuals 600 times faster than text. This is why traffic signs use symbols and pictograms, and why IKEA instructions work globally. Now that the infrastructure is in place, this shift toward visuals feels only natural. The real surprise is that, despite visuals dominating the media landscape, we still have no tool that allows people to turn their thoughts and stories into visuals quickly and easily. Most people lack confidence in drawing, which restricts their ability to express ideas visually. Additionally, all the tools currently available in the market are focused on design, rather than pure expression and communication. Design tools limit fast communication ability as people get bogged down in fine details and design complexities. In contrast, lo-fi techniques offer a more practical solution for quick and easy communication. What we need in this era where visuals speak louder than words is a visual tool that prioritises communication over design perfection. Yesterday, I started looking at our very first office for StoryTribe. I can’t believe we’re finally getting our own space—feels surreal! It really feels like we’re kicking things off for real, and I’m so excited 🥳 For me, even if the office space is a bit small, I prioritise places with large windows. Since we’ll be working there all day, it would feel too confined otherwise. A clear mind really helps with working better. Do you guys have any ‘must-haves’ when choosing an office? 📝 #StoryTribe #Startup #OfficeHunting #FirstOffice

👩🏫 UX Storyboarding 101: ✅ Where do storyboards fit in in the UX process? Storyboards can be valuable tools at multiple stages of this process: 🌟 As-Is Journey Storyboards can be used to map out the current or "as-is" user journey. This helps the team understand how users interact with the product as it exists today, highlighting pain points, inefficiencies, and areas that need improvement. 🌟 Research Playback (Both Pain Points and Success Stories) Storyboards are useful for illustrating research findings and usability test results. They visually explain how users interact with apps or websites and the challenges they face, making the information more engaging than text or data alone. After design iterations that address the problem, you can use storyboards to highlight moments of success, creating a clear contrast between the initial problems and the improved experience. 🌟 During Ideation Once the core problems have been defined through research, storyboards play a critical role during the ideation phase. By visualising different potential solutions, designers can explore how users might interact with each idea. This allows the team to assess which solution best addresses user needs, as well as identify any obstacles early in the design process. 🌟 To-Be Journey (Also Known as ‘Vision-Type’) After ideation and once the product team agrees on the future journey direction, storyboards can be used to create the "to-be" journey as a north star vision for the product. This shows how the ideal user experience should look, aligns the team and stakeholders on the desired outcome, and provides a clear vision for where the product is heading. 🌟 Throughout the Design Phase Throughout the design and development process, storyboards serve as a valuable reference point. Whether highlighting user pain points or illustrating the product vision, they help ensure that design decisions align with user benefits and/or the team’s vision. 💡 Is Storyboarding the Right Term for StoryTribe? 🤷♀️ StoryTribe enables people to share their ideas in a clear and engaging format, on a canvas. Its lo-fi nature, with simple black-and-white line drawings, makes it easy to focus on the core idea and storytelling, without needing to worry about the visual details. When I think about it, the closest word that describes this is "storyboarding," which is why I refer to StoryTribe as a storyboarding tool. But even so, I often wonder if that’s truly the best way to describe it. (Full article: https://lnkd.in/gyVsemZn) First of all, "storyboard" isn’t a term many people are familiar with, and because of its strong association with the film industry, people tend to assume StoryTribe is just for making films or commercials. In reality, the term is probably underused (or defined too narrowly), as I believe many people engage in storyboarding without even realising that’s what they’re doing. I’ve found it really challenging to sum this up in a short phrase (believe me, I’ve been trying for two years) — there’s no single term that fully captures it. Many startup gurus say you should be able to explain your business in simple terms - but some words simply do not exist. As a bilingual person, I know this well. Some Korean words/concepts don’t exist in English, and vice versa. Despite the complexity in explaining it, as the founder, I know StoryTribe has something special. In just six months, more than 100k users have signed up after just seeing it for a few seconds on social media. Some concepts are difficult to describe in words, but people know when they see it. So for now, I might have to stick with "storyboarding" unless something better comes along — or maybe StoryTribe will help redefine the term "storyboarding." 🤷♀️ If you think of a better term, reach out to me via DM! 😁 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/gyVsemZn #StoryTribe #Storyboarding #Storytelling #Storyboard #Startup

⚡ Why AI will never be able to compete with StoryTribe ⚡ Since leaving my full-time job two months ago, I’ve immersed myself in the startup community and engaged with numerous VCs while raising funding for StoryTribe. A question that frequently comes up is, 'AI can generate storyboards. Why should someone choose StoryTribe?’ And here’s why AI will never be able to compete. (Full article: https://lnkd.in/gmR4cnmU) Current generative AI for visual content has a few flaws in its workflow. Any AI-generated output requires human input, which I’d call 'Human-to-AI communication,' because AI can’t read your mind. Unless we all somehow decide to plug our brains directly into computers in the future (which is an interesting question in itself), there’s always going to be that need for humans to translate their thoughts into instructions for AI. But current generative AI for visual content has a few flaws in its workflow. Let me explain this in a simple way. When generating a scene in a storyboard, your brain first forms an idea or concept. This is much like your dreams — often ambiguous thoughts and feelings that are hard to describe in words. Since visual information is processed 600 times faster than words in our brains, these thoughts and ideas often turn into visuals before they do into words — almost automatically. Then, putting these into words takes more time and effort. While you’re writing a prompt for the AI, you’re describing your thoughts in words. Then AI generates images based on its own interpretation of your prompt. This translation is inevitably shaped by generalised, common understandings derived from global data. But we don’t just have a few generalised thoughts — we have countless creative and unique ideas that the AI may miss. So, things will get lost in translation, and this is perfectly normal. Even in human-to-human communication, we face similar challenges. You say something, and the other person interprets it based on their past experiences, making a guess about your meaning. There's a high chance of misunderstanding — something Wiio’s Law captures: 'Communication usually fails, except by accident.’ To achieve better results, you need a dialogue instead of one-way communication — where the AI can ask for clarification, and you can refine the details, providing more specific instructions as you go. The current system doesn’t allow this kind of back-and-forth or 'editing.' Each time you provide a follow-up prompt, the AI treats it as a new instruction, regenerating the entire image from scratch, resetting all the good details that had already been developed.
