About us
The mission of the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation is to support philanthropic activities primarily in the places where the founder has lived and worked : the UK, Greece, Cyprus and Monaco. The Foundation gives support in four main ways : 1. funding scholarships for young people to study at the academic institutions where Stelios himself was educated: London School of Economics and City University in London and the Doukas High School in Athens, Greece. 2. supporting entrepreneurship with cash prizes to stimulate economic growth and job creation. In the UK awards are given, in conjunction with Leonard Cheshire (a UK charity) to entrepreneurs with a disability. In Cyprus the cash prizes are given to teams that include both a Greek Cypriot and a Turkish Cypriot as a way of promoting bi-communal cooperation and hence helping establish lasting peace on the island. In Greece awards are given to young entrepreneurs. 3. donating money to charities in the areas of focus such as supporting environmental projects with WWF and the Foundation of Prince Albert of Monaco and also other worthy local charities. 4. operating a programme in Greece and Cyprus called “Food from the heart” that offers, each working day, without discrimination, snacks to people in need who register at the various points of distribution. This is a cost effective way to help a large number of people in extreme poverty by giving enough food to live another day, on a regular basis. So far approximately 16,000 people have registered to receive “Food from the heart” and currently about 15,000 snacks are distributed per day

Last week our Co Founder Amelia Peckham, secured second place in the Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, Stelios Philanthropic Foundation Awards for Disabled Entrepreneurs 2024 in partnership with Leonard Cheshire. As part of this prestigious award, Amelia has been granted £60,000 for the incredible work she’s achieved as an entrepreneur in the disabled community. Launched in 2006, Cool Crutches & Walking Sticks was inspired by Amelia’s own experiences of using regular crutches that hindered her recovery, following a spinal cord injury from a quad bike accident that left her with a life-altering disability at the age of 19. Amelia plans to use the £60,000 grant to launch into new markets and make their products more accessible, allowing even more people to live comfortably, safely, confidently and in style.

Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou and Stelios Philanthropic Foundation are incredibly proud of disabled adventurer Geoff Holt MBE DL and 2015 Stelios Disabled Entrepreneur Award winner, who after dedicating his life to providing access to the sea for all disabled people embarked on his latest voyage circumnavigating Great Britain, demonstrating there are No Limits To Our Dreams. Celebrating 40 years in a wheelchair, Geoff skippered a Wetwheels boat in aid of the Wetwheels Foundation, the charity he founded to enable barrier-free opportunities on the water for all. Departing on 13 May with the Lord Mayor of City of London Michael Mainelli to wave them off, the challenge was to raise £1.2m for 4 new Wetwheels Boats. Embarking on a journey to 17 accessible ports across the UK, Geoff and his team faced unpredictable weather, the vessel’s endurance whilst looking after the crew’s safety and wellbeing and Geoff taking on the challenge from his wheelchair, they did it! We are delighted to support this incredible challenge, Geoff, his team and the charity. Many congratulations! https://lnkd.in/e_3ikW_x; https://lnkd.in/djDksfbF
